Check the tail light bulbs, check to make sure the dash lighting switch is turned up but not turned so far up that the interior lights come on when the door is closed.
Hi Rblack, As the fuses are all okay the most likely cause is that the bulbs that illuminate the instrument panel have blown. If you look at the instrument panel I'm sure there are some screws which hold it in. Remove those and gently pull the instrument cluster forward and check the lights for operation. Regards John
if fuse under hood has blown there will be one in main fuse box that has blown as well fuses can look good but are bad need a comunity tester or multy meter to check connection
If there is a relay, it's probably inside the switch. Your headlights have fuses, both left and right (my '87 celica does). If they are good, and bulbs aren't burnt out, then probably the switch is bad.
If it's not the bulbs, be sure to check them, might be dual filament and the high beam wire is fine but the headlight one is shot, one bad wire would cause both headlights not to work. Hopefully that's the problem, if not, it could be blown fuse/short in the wire. Try checking power/ground at the bulb to reduce the possible problems. If it has both with the headlights "on" then it's the bulb, if it's missing one then follow the wire for any irregularities. They sometimes pass the wires under the flooring right near the drivers feet, which is a perfect place for water/salt to seep in and corrode wires.
This problem likely is the filaments touching in one of the dual filament bulbs used for the brake lights. Another sign of this would be the dash illumination lights coming on when the headlights are off and the brake pedal is pressed. The solution is to replace the defective bulb.
i was having a similar problem with my 2000 SL. when the taillights would go, so would the cruise control. and through many bulb and fuse replacements, i finally went into a saturn dealership and they did a recall campaign on it. they did their thing and i havnt had any problems since. FREE!
