Could the torque converter clutch solenoid prevent a 91 buick century from running but still start

My buick 91 century would run perfect for about 20 minutes then die. Now it starts but stalls and dies when I depress the gas pedal. Could the cause be the torque converter cluth solenoid? Fuel pressure is at 40 lbs constant, new fuel filter replaced mass air flow sensor.checked idle air control sensor. Still the same.

You have a problem in the fuel pump relay circuit for sure then. I'm betting the relay, but it could be that dropping resistor.

I'm not Roger but can tell you this....if you have a bad crankshaft position sensor or a corrupt ECM....your car will do that.....last things could be the timing belt.

What would cause the transmission to stop working

run the fault codes and check for a torque converter clutch solenoid /servo problem. Check for TCM problem. I suggest a change of fluid and filter clean and while the pan is off have the bands and clutch packs adjusted

I just read on "Just Answers" about a similar problem about my 93 Buick Century torque converter clutch solenoid, that said as a temporary fix i could just un-plug the solenoid. Will that cause any more...

No idea its a auto or a granny box as they are known here in spain ,now to the un initiated mainly myself the torque converter clutch is mystifying as the only clutch in a auto box from my college days 40+yrs ago was the front clutch which has to engage before the gearbox will work and the front pump is driven by the input shaft from the converter which provides the pressure to work the gearbox brain and operate the pistons that lock the clutch and gears into place ,but ? iam old and no one wants my old fashioned time warp technology anymore

1993 buick century starts jumping when you stop, engine dies, but will start.

This could be a sign that the torque converter is starting to fail. A torque converter does pretty much for an automatic transmission what a clutch does for a standard transmission. When either fails, when coming to a stop, the engine will die. For more on a torque converter and its functions, please go here

Runs fine then it just stalls. Wait awhile and it runs fine then stalls again

Sounds like a crank sensor. That would be my starting point

Thumping in Transmision

Could easily be torque converter internal broken part. This is a common problem. I would check the transmission oil filter and the pan to see if there are any metal filings anywhere. If so, you need new trans and torque converter. Rick

My car makes a big clunk when I am coming to a stop and engine shuts off , I have a 95 buick century with 70000 miles on it. it happens after the engine has been running over twenty minutes.

this sounds like the transmission locking torque converter clutch is not disengaging, this will kill the engine. This problem is most often caused by a defective TCC solenoid.
