You may have the wrong code reader. Try another one and see what happens. It could also be a blown fuse, check all your fuses, in particular the one that controls the cigarette lighter.

I need to read codes

Are you fully obd1 compliant? If so, you should be able to use jumper wire at A & B terminals of your data link connector. Then turn key just till the dash lites come on, the cel starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the code, two digit number.
On older vehicles, sometimes the cel no longer works, for whatever reason. On those vehicles I use a scanner that will show live engine data, try to see if anything doesn't look correct. Just my opinion.
Is this the 94 s10?

Engine management light

You need an OBD2 scanner to read the error code. It plugs in to your car and is typically under the steering wheel. Autozone will read the error code for free.

Azera check engine reset

there is no reset for an engine light. it can be turned off using a scan tool, but if the problem that brought the engine light on in the first place hasnt been corrected it will come back on anyway.

Check engine soon

When you get that light, it tells you that your onboard computer has kicked out an error code. You will need an OBD2 scanner to read, OR you can just take it to an auto parts store and they will read the codes for you, but make sure you write down the codes in the order they come off the scanner.

That will give you a place to start.
