You can probably find a Chilton or Haynes manual that covers the procedure from your local library, around 80 dollars

I have a 1993 ford explorer, idle goes up and down specially when the car is cold, what can i do to fix it.

Hello Carmelo Cortez,

The wise thing to do would be to get your codes read...
Beg, borrow or buy the FACTORY WORKSHOP
REPAIR MANUALS.... and trouble shoot yourself...

Alternative:
FREE technical service bulletins (TSBs) ...
and trouble shooting tips available for most popular USA market vehicle... (registration required) BBB Industries - FREE.
BBB Industries Premium Alternators Starters Power Steering Products

My best advice would be to get your codes read...

Some parts houses & muffler shops will do this for free...
Even with the codes some of these issues can be a bit
of a riddle...

Not expensive nor difficult to do...

With your trouble seeming to be a cold issue...
Logically (Occam's razor) that would pint to your

Where is the air charge temp control sensor located on a 1999 ford explorer 4.0 sohc

Generally the Air charge temp sensor is in the intake tube between the air box & the intake. However, there is a possibility that it is part of the Mass air flow sensor.

How can i check to see if the timing chain is the problem?

The cams will not turn if the timing chain is broken. there is no carb on this year explorer. It is fuel injected. The throttle body just controls the air flow and the fuel injectors meter the fuel in the intake manifold.

My 1998 Explorer on startup idiling to high, it occasionally revs up and down while idiling. Is there a trottle position sensor that controls the idiling rpm?

there is a tps located on the intake where the inlet tube for air intake connects, it would be on the left side of the throttle body. does the trk run rough on idle? up/down sputter sometimes stall? Is check engine light on? if no light, check all vacuum lines for cracks/splits loose fit. do this by spraying carb choke cleaner on connections motor rpms will change if leak is present. also spray around perimeter of intake housing where mates with lower intake if engine revs you have bad intake gasket.I Just replaced upper and lower intake on my 98 and shazaam, runs like it should. but do your checks first, unessasary fixes are costly and **** you off.

My 94 ford probe will not idle

the idle speed control motor gets full of sludge and causes this, do the procedure below.

I want you to get a can of intake cleaner (ABOUT $5.00) from any local auto parts store like NAPA or Carquest, do not use carburetor spray, intake cleaner only or u will damage the Teflon coating inside the throttle valve and air bypass valve, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

Stalling when the car start in cold weather

It could be the idle air control valve, this sit right on top of the intake manifold (plenum). It's held in place with 2 bolts and 1 plug with 2 wires going to it. When you first start engine does it rev up a bit then settle down? If so the idle air valve is probably OK. It could also be intake manifold gaskets if they have never been changed and the vehicle has over 100,000 miles on it. That's probably what's going on, in cold weather the gaskets shink up and don't seal causing the engine to stall. It's not too bad of a job to change those gaskets on that vehicle, my son had a 1998 Explorer and it seems to me, it only took me a couple hours.

My 91 ford explores air conditioner blows hot air when going up hill

Sounds like the vac valve is bad to the A/C controller. It should be located in the vac line from the intake before it goes thru the firewall to the controller.

When braking my 1999 ford explorer engine shut off

Here are some of the causes of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
