VW PASSAT 2002 BRAKE QUOTE, PLEASE HELP!

I just got a quote on my brakes, now I went in thinking I was going to be paying about 249 or less to replace my brake pads. Turns out volkswagen rotors do not turn, I guess either they need to change the entire thing or my vw needs it done since it has 70,000 miles, and I have never done the brakes on it since I bought it with 50,000.
The estimate was about 800 dollars for new brake pads and rotors on a 2002 vw passat! is this normal? please help quick I have a feeling I am getting stiffed by my mechanic. I also got the oil changed and a new timing belt (140), alltogether my grand total 984 dollars!
oh, and my blinkers do not work, and in order to get them to work I have to change some 200 dollars switch for my blinkers?!

Pads for the vehicle should not be more than 70 dollars for parts alone. Rotors you can get after market for 35 dollars each for the front , middle of the line grade . You can also spend 50 each for the better ones. Rear about 25 each tops. Tatal for parts 200 for front and back complete. Your mechanic will spend about two hrs on it...80 dollars an hour total 160. You should not pay more than 400 dollars for the job...800 he is smoking you!!!

SOURCE: vw passat brakes! please help!

get your brakes done at a local tire place and not the dealer.  It sounds like you need a new mechanic.  Got to cartalk.com as they have a list of good mechanics in your area.

Brake sticking

indicates that the calliper slide pins ( the pins that are bolted to the frame that bolts to the axle mount) are rusted up
the purpose of these pins is to allow centralization of the calliper on the rotor on brake application and allow centralization again when the brakes are released with out this action the pad on the outside of the rotor stay in hard contact and makes the brakes drag
next check is the brake master cylinder has a blocked compensation port and that is keeping the brakes applied as the fluid cannot return to the reservoir after the brake application
take it to a brake specialist shop for a proper diagnosis and quote

My brake lights just went out in my 2001 VW oassat could it be a fuse?

If both lights went out it could very well be the fuse, check the fuse box located below the dash and see if the fuse labeled taillight/brake light is blowen if so replace fuse and the lights should be working again.

VW Passat STOP brake fault warning

Check the fluid level in the resevoir. If it is low then top it up. However, it went low for a reason - maybe it's just because your brake pads starting to wear out or you could possibly have a brake fluid leak.

If your in any doubt have a pro check it out.

2002 VW passat wagon brakes

Check the level of the brake fluid, as the pads wear down the fluid level falls slightly and the sensor reacts and gives the warning, it may happen more as you are cornering and the brake fluid moves, try gently topping up the brake fluid it doesn't need much..

VW PASSAT BRAKE COST!

ROTORS WILL RUN ABOUT $60-80 PER ROTOR. PREMIUM PADS RUN ABOUT $40-70 PER PAD. PLUS ABOUT 3-4 HOURS OR SHOP TIME AT AN AVERAGE OF $60-70 PER HOUR

I DO SUGGEST CALLING 3-4 OTHER SHOPS NEAR YOUR AREA AND GET AN ESTIMATE FROM THEM AS WELL.
