You could have 3 different engines in that rig.
The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 for most Dodge 8 cyl engines.
And the odd cylinders are on the driver side.
The small block engines ( 318 ) have the distributor in the back, and the big block engines ( 360 440 ) are in the front.
The rotor on the big blocks turn counterclockwise. The dist cap is usaully stamped with cyl 1 as a starting point.

The dist cap is not marked cyl 1

In that case, you would have to line up the marks on the crank pulley and you would have a 50/50 chance the number one cylinder is ready to fire.

SOURCE: i have a 1975 dodge D100 miss fireing

The correct firing order for the engine is 1=8=4=3=6=5=7=2. Standing in front of the engine the right bank is odd numbered. and the left bank is even numbered. Also check to see if you are getting fuel to the carburator. Hope this will help you.

1999 dodge 1500 changed oil spark plugs wires and cap driving and it died and now it wont start

Remove the distributor cap and check the rotor. If it's good check for spark do this, remove a spark plug wire insert a screwdriver into the boot and then hold the metal part of the screwdriver 1/2in. away from a metal part of the engine block then have someone crank the engine while you look for spark. If good remove the cap from the fuel rail test port then depress the schraeder valve and have someone turn the switch on and fuel should spray out. Do these tests in this order to prevent fire. I hope this helps. Take care.

Exact spark plug wire placement

Turn the crankshaft till the timing mark is at 0...Check where the rotor points...if towards the back of the engine, turn one more time till it points to front. It is now at #1 on cap. Plugs are 1357 on left bank, 2468 on right. order is 18436572 in that order around cap in the direction the rotor turns when cranking.
