I have a 1998 civic hx an it does not have a vtec engine. The 0bd2 code is the p1259. I believe the ecu is looking for vtec that is not there. Found on another site to fix it, bridge the wires on the connector with 2 wires and ground the other with one wire. I did this and it will then rev higher than 4k with no engine light for about a minuate then comes back on and revs out at 4k again. Is there any other suggestions u may have?

SOURCE: code p1259

A "P1259" code refers to "Vtec (Variable valve Timing and lift Electronic Control) System malfunction. It sounds like the Vtec filter screens may be clogged. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (This will prevent electrical current from going where you don't want it and will reset the CEL. The Vtec solenoid valve is located at the right rear corner of the cylinder head. The Vtec valve is held on with 3- 10mm bolts. Also there is an electical connector that you will want to remove first.

When you take off the solenoid valve, check the valve screens to see if they are clogged. Clean off any crud you find on the filter screens. A good quality spray carburator cleaner works well. If the screens are too yuckked-up to clean, just get a new one. While you are in there, you might want to also check to see that the plunger on the solenoid itself moves freely. If it does'nt, replace it too.

After you put everything back together, do an oil and filter change. Use a high quality oil of the viscosity recommended by the car manufacturer.

Good luck and God Bless.

What is no dtc definition

There is a problem with the VTEC Oil Pressure Switch circuit or VTEC Solenoid Valve circuit

Make sure the oil level is good and it is not dirty. Dirty oil can clog the VTEC assembly so you might have to take it apart, clean it, and replace the seals.

p1259 is a problem with the VTEC system. this system is for improved performance at higher rpm's. oil can get sludged up and clog the system, or the VTEC solenoid can just go bad. you can always have someone with a scan tool clear the codes to turn off the light, but until the problem is fixed, it will just keep coming back on
