The description for Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1521 is "Incorrect Engine Oil Type." The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is able to identify engine oil viscosity using oil pressure and oil temperature sensor inputs and will set this DTC if the viscosity is determined to be incorrect. Engine oil viscosity could be incorrect due to the wrong engine oil being added or oil contamination (with fuel or coolant). This code could also be set if there is a problem with the engine's internal oil pressure. Lastly, this condition could also be caused by a PCM software issue. There appear to be two software updates to address the false detection of the P1521 DTC; they are on Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) 18-008-08 and 18-035-05. If the software is already up-to-date, I would recommend starting with an oil change using oil with the correct viscosity. You can read about how to interpret engine oil labels (including viscosity rating) here: https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-to-read-a-motor-oil-label
Code 430 is for the catalytic converter on bank two not working correctly. Code 1521 is for incorrect engine oil type or weight. Code 153 is for O2 sensor bank 2 sensor one not switching. Code 113 is for the intake air temp sensor saying the intake air is over 200 degrees. I would clear the codes and see how many come back before I try to fix anything. The last code could make the truck not start so you may want to look at the temp sensor. It may be unplugged or shorted to ground. The code 153 could be a faulty sensor which could cause code 430.
P1521 - VRIS Solenoid 1 I have replaced the VRIS (Variable resonance idle solenoid 1). P0750 - Shift Solenoid A malfunction
There is more than one solenoid in the valve body and to make sure he is
replacing the right one. I will say that with an electrical malfunction
code---it's usually the wiring or the solenoid----so not a real bad
choice. Come to think of it I think there will be 4 solenoids---A,B,EPC
and TCC. So he needs to find out which one is the bad one before he goes
replacing.
P1521
This code indicates wrong oil used. This could mean either the wrong oil was put in at you last oil change, your engine was operating under high ambient temperatures
Hey greenlee99, your best bet would be to grab one these manuals so that you have pictures and diagrams along with step by step instructions. It will tell you what tools and parts you need. Can't go wrong with having it.
Computer code "P1521", is set when there is an engine oil condition. Check to see if the recommended old viscosity is being used and if you're following the oil change schedule. The oil could be contaminated or there may be an internal engine condition that may affect oil pressure. All of these conditions can set the code above.
The first thing I would recommend is to change the engine oil using the correct viscosity unless you know that the oil has been changed and it is the correct viscosity. Regardless the dealer or independent shop will have to use a scan tool to check the problem and to reset the light. I hope this will help
