The engine is low on oil. but assuming it is not.
The engine is either idling to low .
The engine oil pressure itself is low. The engine oil pressure switch is leaking or not reading the oil pressure in the car.
I assume there is not knocking noise from the engine.
I would check for any oil leaks on the engine .
IF there are no leaks , I would change the oil pressure sesnor or switch first .
This could lead into major engine work.

Good luck

After driving for short distance it won't start I have tried every thing on the book on my BMw 318i m40 1992 model

have you tried having the fault codes reading section of the book
It is the first line of the trouble shooting
it appears that there is an electronic part break down for over heating
it could be in the ignition control module, ECM, coil/s, immobilizer
try exchanging the ECM with a known good one and fix any faults shown on the code scanner

Bmw 318I oil leak could it be the rear motor seal

Yes. It's called the "rear main" (crank) seal. To repalce it requires the temporary removal of the transmsission. It could also be from leaky valve cover gaskets, a front main (crank) seal or from a number of other sources. Even a leaky oil drain plug seal.

Please refer to the owners manual for red light warning, it can be low oil pressure or hot engine or emissions system. If you don't have an owqners manual you can find used ones on eBay Motors.

Motor oil red led indicator

now when you put the brake on you are drawing power from the fuse board to feed the stop lights,so either you have a power supply problem of some description or the brake pedal mechanism has pulled some cables. But you could also have a ECU problem where when you apply the brakes its throwing up the oil light which could be caused by a bad earth.Sorry but this is one of them problems where a BMW dealer mechanic would obviously have come across this before and would be able to sort it out in minutes. But the problem their is that a lot of garages have unscrupulous reception clerks that like to write a bill out to milk the customer..
