Lexus SC430 Stalling Problem

I purchased a used SC430 with 95,000 miles in June of 2011. During the summer, it began to stall, similar to vapor lock, during acceleration and even with steady driving. It also stalls occasionally upon initial start from a stop. This has continued, regardless of weather, and it is intermittent. I have found that it can be overcome by releasing the gas pedal for a few seconds, then depressing it again. The stalling has never caused the engine to stop completely and idle is fine at all times. I would say the frequency of this hesitation averages about six times during a 20 minute drive. My wife drove it to our new home in April of 2012. I forgot to mention the stalling to her, and she said it caused her to drive quite some distance at 45 mph even with the accelerator almost floored. I suggested taking her foot off of the accelerator for a few seconds, and this also worked for her. I tried different fuel octanes and used a can of water remover, all with no change to the stalling. I would very much appreciate suggestions on what might cause this and how to remedy it. June 2011 - Owned vehicle for a month and stalling started. June 2012 - Stalling simply disappeared and engine operation returned to normal although nothing was done. February 2013 - Stalling returned. Suggestions which have been Offered: 1. Check the air filter and replace it, if needed. 2. Clean the throttle body. 3. Check MAF sensor and TPS (throttle position sensor readings). The(TPS) is inside the throttle body that controls your acceleration. If it fails, you'll definitely know, as the vehicle won't accelerate properly (stalls, works okay sometimes, etc.). 4. The Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) can cause of poor idle and stalling. The IAC can be repaired by replacing a couple of cheap bearings. 5. Change the PCV valve since it can cause stalling. 6. Check fuel pressure since it could be a bad fuel pump. 7. Change the fuel filter. Yet they are almost lifetime filters and are difficult to change.

Check the EVAP system canister purge valve, usually located on or near the canister itself which should be near the fuel tank. If the valve is clogged or stuck, it will cause excessive backpressure in the vapor return system, which sounds like what is happening here. Good luck, hope this helps.

The inside of the ignition dealer (Delco) must be thoroughly cleaned and all metal parts passed with fine metal wool. Sparkplugs must also be cleaned or renewed. The air inlet-valve is very sensitive. The cylinder and the disc must be carefully cleaned with light metal wool and contact cleaner. The fault is due to the disc remaining stuck in the cylinder, so no idle function and malfunction of the auto-choke system. If this solution does not work, then the vacuum pressure is defective.Hint from a German Mercedes specialist.

I don't know the year but it could be a defective IAC solenoid. If its an older truck then it could be a throttle cable.

What is a fuel vapor on 2001 buick century

If you use "fuel vapor lock" in the search button, you will get references discussing adding a fuel return line to the fuel tank and/or adding a fuel pump assist. One of these may cure your problem.

Per Wikipedia: Vapor lock
is a problem that mostly affects gasoline-fueled internal combustion engines.

It occurs when the liquid fuel changes state from liquid to gas while still in the fuel delivery system. This disrupts the operation of the fuel pump, causing loss of feed pressure to the carburetor or fuel injection system, resulting in transient loss of power or complete stalling. Restarting the engine from this state may be difficult.

The fuel can vaporize due to being heated by the engine, by the local climate or due to a lower boiling point at high altitude. In regions where higher volatility fuels are used during the winter to improve the starting of the engine, the use of "winter" fuels during the summer can cause vapor lock to occur more readily. Is it a recent problem? Do you live in an area that uses gasoline from the high volatility "fracking" crude?

I hope this helps, . . Dit

Front door speaker blown stereo shop said the speaker would have to be purchased at lexus

You dont have to get them from LEXUS but in order to keep the sound at the same balance and quality, you should do that unless you want to replace all the speakers with other models.

F 150 2004 stauls during the winter-summer months no stauling

The stalling, if you are talking about when the engine is cold, is due to a failure of the "Cold start routine". Should this be the case, the defect is due to a temperature sensor failing to send a signal or the PCM failing to use the signal.

Now if this stalling is when the engine is warm in cold weather, it can be due to the ISC(idle speed control) solenoid. One reason the stalling is reduced in the Summer months is the A/C has an idle speed step-up which works when the A/C is used.

Another part which can cause stalling is the "Cam Phaser" in some Ford designs. The A/C step-up may mask this problem too. This is a problem in 2 camshaft motors. It requires more intensive inspection. Try the cheaper causes first. The Cam Phasers would be expensive.

2005 300c has 26,000 miles on it. When we fill it with gas it stalls. We do not overfill nor do we wait until the pump clicks off. We stop before that. Spent $600 with local dealer in May, filled it 6...

Same problem with my 2005 300c. It's happened five times to me, including stalling on the expressway. I looked at the posts. Too many differing views - without a real solution. Talk to three Chrysler mechanics and got three different "solutions." As much as I love this car (bought new June 2004), I'm ready to get rid of it and get a BMW or a Benz.
