Toyota avalon wont start

Drove the 1996 Avalon got home & went to leave again then the car died like it was out of gas but there is gas in it. Fuel pump was not coming on after turning the key on. replaced the fuel pump & filter. Still would not crank but can hear the fuel pump working. Sounded like it was not getting spark. Check & is getting spark. Looking for some help.

If sure you have hot spark and good fuel delivery, might be a faullty cam shaft sensor, ecm, bad connection, etc.

SOURCE: vehicle just keeps cranking wont start.

Make sure that your fuel presure is up to at least 60 psi if not that could be your problem. If not, make sure you are getting spark, if not could be your Crank sensor or ingniton module ECM. Usually if your Engine control module wouldn't be bad because of your fuel pump is working, but may not be putting out the proper pressure for the fuel system. Fuel Pumps are a Problem with that year..

Is the security light on? If you have spark and fuel, it should run. Any codes? Could be bad crank sensor or cam sensor.

Hi,welcome to fix ya. this could be caused by the main (PGMFI) relay under the dash it controlls the fuelpump . There is a circuit board inside it that cracks and causes the fuel pump to shut off,

I Have A 96 Toyota Avalon xl 3.0 Car Starts And Dies!! Replaced Fuel Pump Fuesl Filter And Still Starts And Stops?

I'm not 100% clear on exactly what isn't working from your question other than now the car is starting and dying after changing the fuel pump. In that case it's possible you've oppositely attached the positive and negative wires to the fuel pump. Hope this might solve part of your problems.

What makes 2001 Pontiac Montana stall and die while driving, speed doesn't matter?

Amazing.....At this very moment in time.....my 2000 silhouette is doing the same thing....if you were unaware.....ventures Montana's and silhouette are from the same mold. Very similar in all aspects. My diagnostics have got to the fuel pump part of suspects....but I have already checked filter, relays, fuses and ignition electronics....my latest suspect is the pressure sensor that monitors the pressure of the gas tank....there is also a pressure sensor on the injector rail I'm suspicious of. I'm going to find out how to place each sensor in "okay ....fuel pump turn on and pump fuel to the throttle body" to check them. In my case....I don't smell any gas after turning the engine over....trying to start it.....sometimes for over an hour....never any gas smell....so I suspect fuel delivery is the problem. The fuel pump has several sensors that control whether or not it needs to run....and pump gas. I can hear my fuel pump run for 2 or3 seconds when I turn the ignition to the on or start positions.testing all of those sensors is my plan of action for this 3 day weekend. Your on track with your work and suspicion of the position sensors......vacuum leaks will follow the sensor checks. Vacuum leaks could cause a couple of sensors to fail too.....I dropped my fuel tank last weekend....and found the fuel pump to be in working condition.....I removed my fuel filter and punched a hole through it for free flow.....to eliminate it from the list...after checking the vacuum angle....I will move to the electronics side.....with the ignition switch first and the transmission position indicator switch following.....I've plugged my trouble code reader in and didn't get any indication of any failed electronic devices......my problem and your problem seem to be very similar, except that I am doing all of my work on the van myself. I will try to keep you informed of my diagnostics through fix it.it would be nice to know how yours is advancing too.....there are a few directions you can progress into.....hope one solves your problem....if not.....there will be more ideas to come....until I solve my problem....good luck to. Us both and onward we go......Nick.ps couldn't spell or grammar check because I'm using my phone to compose....and the typing pad covers the entirescript being typed. Sorry for any problems. Chevy truck stalled on freeway after buying gas at a speedway station. Was it bad gas or fuel filter/fuel pump problem?

Good question. All you can do is hook a line up to the fuel rail to get some gas so you can inspect it. If the gas looks ok they you probably have either a fuel pump problem or ignition problem.

96 Benz ran out of gas other day, got it filled up & drove home (20 miles). Next day drove about 40 miles, left car running in park for about 15 min, when I left car was stalling like it was running o

You never leave a car running, as it will
overheat the Exhaust Converter
When you run out of fuel, you sometimes
ruin the Fuel Pump
It depends on gas to lubricate it,as strange as it sounds
Check fuel pressure & volume at the motor with a gauge

93 ford thunderbird LX dies as if starving for gas after I start it

You may have cooked the fuel pump.
Cars today use a fuel pump in the gas tank. The pump uses gasoline for both lube and to help keep the pump cool. Anytime the tank is below 1/4 the pump is working harder and running hotter than normal. If you drove it for 2 hours low on fuel, the pump may have died.
I would check the fuel pump relay to make sure the pump is getting power, if it is not, you can bypass the relay to verify it is not a pump problem.

Vehicle dies

Sounds like a possible fuel pump problem...When they begin to go bad they will overheat and lock up, then work fine for a while and do the same thing again. By changing the filter you lowered the flow resistance and allowed the pump to work a bit easier but still being bad, it did the same thing again. There are other things that can do this as well, but pump is most common.

Van died thought it was out of gas put gas in it started drove home parked it. Went back out to leave hour later would not start. Still will not start!

Three possible issue here. One, the fuel pump may be faulty and inoperable. Two, the fuel filter may need to be changed due to clog. Last, there may be a voltage issue with the current that is directed to the fuel pump causing a weak stream.you should have 14 volts going to this fuel pump. if its lower than that, it wont pump properly.also, there can also be water in the tank or bad gas. I suspect a dirty fuel filter and faulty fuel pump possibly.

We had an intermittent dieing problem. Worse when the weather was worse. The coil was cracked and shorting itself out intermittently on a rivet.
