Is it possible to remove pistons from a 2000 GMC Safari with engine still in Van?

I would say anything is possible, but I would not want to even try to do a job like that in the vehicle. I assure you that you will be better off to remove the engine as to try to pull the heads with it still in the van.

1995 GMC Safari Loses Power when accelerating hard, rough idle

Do you have a check engine light on? Is this a 4.3 with central port injection? If it's running real rich it might have a fuel leak inside the intake, either a fuel pressure regulator leaking or a feed line to the injector.

1994 GMC Safari Oil leaked out for no reason. Put more oil in...look under van and oil is leaking like a water fall. Turn Van off oil leak calms to a trickle. Other than the oil water fall the van runs...

Check the oil filter adaptor bracket. My 1993 Safari had the same problem, and the adaptor bracket and seal were bad. Replacement fixed the leak.

There are a few thing I need to know, what engine do you have, how many miles on the van, what part(s) of the test did it fail?

Running ruff

Hi there ace,

There are several possible causes
  • Vacuum leak. Check hoses and connections for a hissing sound.
  • The EGR valve may be leaking
  • The PCV valve may be plugged
  • Air filter may be clogged
  • Fuel pump not delivering sufficient quantity
  • Timing chain stretched/Worn timing gears
All are easily checked. You'll need a timing light for the timing chain check. A can of Carb Cleaner for the valves.

Get back to me with what you find out. We can take it from there. Good luck Ace
