Loud rattle from engine and overheating

I've paid over £3,000 to repair the overheating engine; the last mechanic said he changed the engine, but the problem persisted.
Now, after he refused to change the engine, there is a continous rattle from the engine.

Can anyone advise on what I can do?

I wonder why the overheating caused you to change the engine instead of checking with the cooling system. Some time back my 323i overheated and coolant expansion tank burst open, but that probably due to ignoring the coolant level low light for a couple of days. I replaced the coolant expansion tank, thermostat and few hoses connected with the tank and it worked fine for me.
Try to check you coolant level - may be you should have replaced your water pump and not the engine.

Why would my Pontiac start with a loud rattling noise?

Brown Milky Oil sounds like your head gasket has gone and coolant water is mixing with engine oil. Unless you have an oil cooler, it may be from there.

You can locate the rattling if you get someone to start it with the hood up.

2001 dodge neon wont start it ova heating obd code p0171. guy at shop says didnt reset drove 2 miles engine light on thn shut off on me it was making loud ratting under hood turned offwont start

This code is for the vehicle running lean ( more air than fuel ). If the vehicle is overheating it can set this code. You will have to check why the vehicle overheated. Low coolant/rad fan/ thermostat are all things that will have to be checked. The rattling noise may have been from EXTREME overheating and serious engine damage could have occured. Have a certified repair shop take a look and find out.

I have a rattling sound which is loud when my 04 corsa 1.2 engine is warm.I had the timing belt changed by vauxhall 6,000 miles ago.Took it in to vauxhall last week as the noise bothers me they did oil and...

Check the engine top heat shield and the undercarriage heat shields. They may be loose and rattling. Give 'em a bump with your hand and see if they rattle. If they do, tighten them.

The techs at Vauxall may have failed to tighten the upper heat shield when they replaced the timing belt.

I have a 2007 Jeep Wrangler X with 53,700. I have started hearing what sounds like the engine valves rattling when I accelarate. What could be causing this problem

When was your last oil change? Is the proper viscosity oil in it? Modern engines do NOT like oil other than what over-paid engineers have designed it to use, and NO additives. Have the Oxygen sensors checked. They could be leaning out the engine. My personal vehicles get the oil changed every 3 to 6 thousand miles, without fail. I've spent thousands of hours trying to convince customers to change their oil more often than 10 to 15 thousand miles to no avail.

If the rattling changes with the revs of the engine, it might be that the valve compensators are either worn or not getting enough lubrication. 20V engines have quite small oil passages travelling to the head. They tend to clog up with gunk if the oil change is not frequent enough.
