I have a 1997 bmw 328i convertible and my driver's side power window goes down great, but when push the button to go up it will go about 3 inches and then makes a terrible clicking noise, i pull the window up and the same thing happens 3 inches later. i have the door panel off and everything looks ok, any help would be great. thanks

It sounds like the window regulator may be bad. I would recommend removing and inspecting the regulator and motor. Also, before you remove the regulator, you can inspect the plastic retainers that hold the glass to the regulator. the retainers can be replaced without having to remove the regulator itself.

The safety mechanism is being activated..... Either the window channels are obstructed or the window runners need oiling.

HEY GUYS MY 97 328I CONVERTIBLE WONT OPEN OR CLOSE THE TOP, AS RIGHT NOW IT IS IN CLOSE POSSITION BUT THE LIGHT KEEP ON BLINKING, i DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO ANY MORE COULD ANY BODY HELP ME?
Turn on the radio so the battery is engaged, or turn on the engine.

  • 2 Fold down the cargo partition in the trunk and lock it on both sides. If the cargo partition is not down, there will be no place in the trunk to store the convertible top.
  • 3 Press the convertible button forward to open the top. It's located under the circular control button on the consul. The button has a picture of a window with one arrow pointing up and another pointing down.
  • 4 Pull the convertible button backward to close the top.
  • 5 Use your key to open or close the top when you are outside of the BMW but still close to it. Press and hold the arrow button on top of your key to open the top. To close the top, press and hold the Lock button. The car does not need to be turned on to operate the top with the key.

    I have a 328i convertible 1996. i bougth a hardtop, but i can not find the swich fot the wiring for defrost rear window and interior lights....if youcan help me...thanks
    when you push the defrost button on your dash near heater dials it will work rear window, it is wired up when you engage the roof locks.

    1997 BMW 328i convertible automatic tranny slipping
    to check oil start vehicle in park and let idle, open large allen bolt [normally 17mm] on g/box sump, oil should spill from aperture. if not top up until it does. this must be done at a temperature of less than 30 degrees celsius as oil expands at higher temperatures.

    I had a similar problem with a '95 Olds. Turned out that the wires between the door frame and the driver's side door had broken from the constant flexing of the door opening and closing.
