Hood Latch Can you tell me what the ''rod'' is called that connects the hood latch? I tried bending it to have a more secure connection to the latch and it broke. I need to get another one ASAP and didn't want to sound to stupid at the dealership; Also do you think one cane buy this part alone without having to buy the whole mechanisim? Thanks!

which "rod" are you refering to, the one inside the vehicle? or outside? inside should be the hood release, outside I beleive it is cleverly called a "rod" or operating rod, wouldn't worry about the dealer thinking anyhting except that you are a paying customer and he should be glad! Have you checked in local wrecking yards for the same part? yes you should be able to get just the rod, the dealer may only carry the mechanism though

Toyyota tundra hood cable not connected to verticle rod connected to latch under grill.Hood is popped up 1 inch. How and where do I reach cable.

Hi Mark, If you lift the hood with your right hand once it has been released from the release lever inside the cabin, around the centre of the hood you will feel (and if you stoop down, you can see) the safety locking latch, which is released by pushing the lever upwards. This operation is carried out as you stand in front of the vehicle and lift the hood allowing that space. Regards John

A ford focus 2001 got over heat

1Reach under the driver's side of the dashboard and pull the hood latch using your hand. This will pop the hood up about an inch in the air, allowing you to access the hood latch itself. #2 Bend down and look between the front lip of the grill and the top of the bumper. Obscured by the grille is the hood latch, a small, flat tab that you can use your hand to lift. #3 Place your hand under the hood latch and lift it up with one hand, then lift up the hood with the other. ----------------------------------------------------------------------

1988 hood latch will nor release, how do I open hood?

hood release is easy.make a tool - buy small steel rod from hardware store.1st bend 1 inch slight hook2nd bend 3 to 5 inches at 60 degrees anglefold over the handle twice and tape.slide in fish and pull. it opens easy and i can get it within 10 seconds.look at pictures. you need a stiff rod so don'i use a hanger and buythe steel rod same *** as a hanger -thin. bend in vice.so easy. 3_17_2012_8_20_05_pm.jpg3_17_2012_8_20_31_pm.jpg3_17_2012_8_20_53_pm.jpg3_17_2012_8_21_18_pm.jpg

My father in law has a 88 Cadillac, hood release inside car is broke, cable is loose, how do i get the latch open to replace the cable?

1988 sedan devile hood latch/cable. can not open the hood.

I had this problem last week and didn't know what to do. went to a mech and was told for $90 p/h they would try and could take 1,2 or 3 hours.

they can not tell till they try. also called a gm dealer service center and was told the same thing except they charge $150 p/h.

no way . I found a sugestion to to the following .

I'll tell you right now it worked and is soooo easy. I made a cable to stick in the hood and opened the hood in 10 seconds. blew my mind.

go to a hardware store and buy a metal rod - steel rod 4 feet - cost 3 dollars.

get the thin rod about the size of a hanger. put it.in a vice and make 2 bends - bend the rod 1 inch at the end and 4 to 5 inches from there on the second bend

...make the second bend at a 60 degree ange .. on the other end of the rod I folded over twice to make a handle then taped the handle side ..

now you have a rod shaped somewhat like a 7 . Now stick it in the fron of the hood between the grill and the hood point todard the latch and ' fish for a min

then tug. it openes.. doesn't take much of a pull and it openes... \I almost fell over ..

so easy. try it ...

Hood latch is broken

This is not easy, I'll tell you this up front. If it were you'd be missing your battery in the morning....lol. First, you've got to go to a crafts shop or hardware store and find a piece of solid metal rod with a 1/16th diameter and 30 inches long. At one end you want to bend an "L" shape the width of a pair of vicegrips teeth. At the other end you want to wrap the rod around your hand, as best as possible(this will become your handle). With a good small flashlight in one hand and the rod in the other, lie one the ground and look up underneath the bumper towards the hoodlatch at the top of the radiator support. Within this area you'll see a small part of the pull cable. where this connects to the mechanism you want to pull it towards the drivers side fender. Your hood should now pop to the saftey latch position. open the hood and get your release cable replaced asap. Thank you, Dana. P.S. don't get discouraged, this takes patience and some time.

My hood latch on 1986 chevy pickup broke at the latch and I cannot get hood open, even took grill off trying to get to latch. What can I do?

According to the sevice manual, "Release the hood from below, using a suitable rod, by pressing on the hood release tab at the right side of the lock assembly." I went out and looked at my truck and that is as clear as mud. You are going to have to do it from under the rad support.Get a piece of long steel rod, or a long cheap screwdriver and bend it close to a right angle. Work it up through the hole where the secondary catch is and aim the bent piece to the driver's side. Puu the rod back toward the firewall to keep it in contact with the latch as you slide it across. The tab you have to hit is about 6' from where you are going to start and it will have to move almost an inch to release. The secondary latch has a shield to stop you from doing this at the hood, unless you have a really long piece of small steel rod and could put it in from the fender area. You'll have to put a bend in it as well but not as much.Hope this helps.
