Its either the gear box or the engine. If engine has no enough power for take off, the gear box won't change because an auto gearbox uses the engine speed to think of the next gear.
slipping is clutch ?? why would it be electronics. un less its an auto box. if it auto box can be a lot of things. most common is the breathe hose blocked up. if it runs fine until it gets hot then it can be this. if it is like it all the time it can be the speed sensor not reading the rev speed to change gear. if it is doing it slowly taking time to change gears its is not reading the engine speed or the abs speed sensor you would no if it was this as you would have a jumping speedo speed. to get the best solution you need to have the engine and auto box read.
jolt from the rear of the car when the auto gear box changes in low gear is a common fault in the older s types. most of the time is a sign of the gear box on its way out. is worth checking gear box oil level and oil quality though. noise from near side rear would probably be the damper rose joint which make a knocking noise when they wear.
The problem is with the gear oil. To keep ahead of the rest BMW started what they call life time oil for their gear boxes, though that sounds great it doesn't really work in reality, they have now gone back to recommending a gear oil change every 60k miles.
In short you need to change your gear oil and soon, the oil in your gear box is no longer effective and will damage the gear box. You'll need about 5 litres for your car and costs around £15 a litre, expensive stuff!! I had the same problem with my 328i auto, the dealer was clueless and kept quoting the lifetime oil, I changed the oil and the problem has gone and it's so much smoother.
