My 2005 Lexus LX470's check engine light blinks six times after start. What does this mean?
SOURCE: 96 lexus es 300 blinking check engine light
Hi there;
#4 Miss-fire. All the things you are saying make a lot of sense. When the light is blinking the cylinder is actualy misfiring, & the smell you are smelling is the fuel that is not burning in the engine burning in the exahst. This can cause a lot of damage to the exausht if it is not repaired..
There is still a couple of things that need to be checked, first he needs to check to see if it is possibly a fuel injector that is sticking. He can do this easily by moving the #4 injector to another cylinder & run the car. When it starts missfiring he will need to see if it is still #4 or if it is the cylinder that he moved the injector to. if it is the new cylinder it is obviously the injector, if it is still #4 he will need to look into the possibility of the EGR valve sticking open or some other issue to do with valve timing or low compression.
I hope this helps
Farrout!

I had the same problem with mine, mechanic said it was a result of the O2 sensor (s) needing replaced. He replaced them and problem was solved.

SOURCE: Engine shakes when Idling/ Check Engine Light started blinking
i just fixed a similar problem on my van there is a rubber elbow on the end of the pvc hose that connects to the valve cover you can only buy the elbow with the hose and it costs about 100 bucks but i guess they have had to replace a lot of these because the new one looks twice has strong you just have to check and see if its collapsed in on itself preventing air movement or leaking the shop will charge you 175 dollars to fix it plus the part but it only takes 20 minutes good luck

SOURCE: hold light blinking, check engine light on, engine slows down
check tps sensor (throttle position sensor in backside of the throttle cable) and map sensor (manifold absolute pressure on front little 1 inch sensor with vacuum line) make sure there plugged in. the ecm (engine control module driver side inner fender) and tcm (transmission control module under dash) both need the data to know when to upshift and increase fuel/air. Otherwise the computer runs default values and guesses off of other sensors giving poor performance. also disconnect battery for 15 min. usually resets aveo service lights if you dont have a scanner.

SOURCE: check engine light is blinking and car does not
When the light is blinking it means the car is actively misfiring (which is why it's shaking and running rough). When this happens, pull over immediately and shut the car off. Running with a misfire can damage the engine.
You'll need to have the computer scanned for codes - they'll tell you which cylinder(s) are misfiring. Then you can investigate. Check the spark plugs for proper gap and to make sure that the car is igniting each cylinder correctly. If you have more than one cylinder misfiring, it increases the likelihood that the coil is bad. If you're unsure of doing this work, have the car towed to a shop that you trust and have them figure out the problem.
