I have a 2001 Nissan sentra GXE automatic with the 1.8, it recently started refusing to accelerate. I can get it up to around 45 or 50 (slowly) in 2nd gear, but it won't shift to 3rd until I let off the gas. Once I do, it shifts to third and maybe even 4th, but as soon as I step on the gas again it down shifts back to 2nd. It doesn't seem to accelerate will in any gear. the check engine light was on, I pulled the codes and it indicated the Mass Airflow sensor, the O2 sensors and the idler control system. I replaced to mass airflow sensor (it was under warranty) and cleared the codes. I've driven it a few times and no codes came back. I've been disconnecting sensors and driving to diagnose it so that might be where the other codes came from. I would appreciate any help!
Your ECM/ computer may be shot. those model sentras had campaign, where the ECM box would be lined with foam to hold the computer tight, but the fumes from the glue that Nissan used to hold the foam down, would eat the computer internally and destroy it. Nissan had us pull those foams out and discard. if you still have the foams inthere, good chances are that the ECM is fried, causing issues. Question: did you use aftermarket air filter in the air box?? or Nissan filter?? Let me know. very important to use Nissan filter it this car.

mine did the same thing except i bought one from python and it worked fine for 3 days but the same problem came back

Check the fuel filter. Do keep in mind that the fuel system is 'always' under pressure!!! Also check EGR. Your fuel pump must be working or it wouldn't start at all. The C02 sensor could be part of the prob. A real bugga to change! But should be changed every year. Do start with the filter, then move on. You have spent enough already! Frankster016

I would have the charging system checked for over-voltage and AC ripple. There maybe a hidden wire harness problem if the charging system is okay. Wiggle test the wire harness while the engine is running to help locate the problem area. That is way to many parts replaced.

Hello! Which O2 sensor did you change? P0138 and P0140 are indicating Bank #1 Sensor #2... Is this the sensor that was changed? If it was, The sensor is reacting to a different fault...A rich condition will contaminate the sensor; It then generates a fault...Actually the O2 fault is an effect not a cause...
Does the engine run OK? Hard starting, stalls or breaks-up when you give it gas. Give me a little back ground...
There is a common fault on 2001 Nissan's that you can check; Lack of a non-resistive ground to the body...
Use an ohm meter set on the X1 scale...#1 read from negative terminal of battery to body...Then from the engine to the body...Both readings should = Zero ohms...If not .......That's the fault

SOURCE: I recently replaced the transmission
The automatic transmission has three drums that hold clutch facing and pressure plates to drive your car. The first drum is used for reverse and first gear, the second drum for 2nd and 3rd gear. The last drum is used for the rest of the gears. When draining transmission fluid a technician that has experience in transmissions will take not of the fluid that is drained out. If a large amount of metallic fibers and seen flowing out mixed with the fluid he will generally add that fluid back into the transmision. The reason why is it is from worn clutch facings. If not poured back into the trans and new fluid is added this will tend to cause slippage when the trans is going through the shifting sequence. The worn facings in the fluid makes the fluid have more bulk in the viscosity m aking it shift smoother. All you can do if keeping this vehicle now is to either add a can of transmedic that will help the shifting process to perform better or have the transmission rebuilt
