2001 VW Cabrio ignition problem

I have a 2001 VW Cabrio. Within the last few months I have replaced the battery, alternator, and the starter. Currently it starts fine most of the time. Sometimes it won't start several time in a row or for hours. I tried to watch what happens when I start it and where the ground from the negative terminal of the battery connects to the side of the engine, it sparks when someone attempts to start it. I believe there might be a direct short somewhere in the ignition system. Where should I look and does anyone have a possible solution provided from experience or an ignition system diagram?

How to hotwire my vw 2001 Cabrio

In order to hot wire your Cabrio, you'll have to remove covers to your ignition switch and around the steering column. If you are doing then, you're better off just replace the ignition switch.

Might help if you share as mush information as possible, as to what your problem is and what you have done so far to correct the problem.

Vw cabrio troubleshooting

Hi, there are a few possible faults that i can think of: the first could be that the battery may be low and does not crank the motor. The second could be that the starter needs attention.(you do not say whether any ignition lights come on) When the key is turned and the motor does not crank, the ignition, battery or the starter could be faulty. I would suggest you start with the battery then test the starter, if the battery is good and the starter is okay then check the ignition. All the best.

'01 Park Ave. base model will not start fuel pump and starter replaced alternator and battery tested good?

It sounds like a bad crank sensor or a cam sensor, regardless your first step before throwing anymore parts into it is to have it scanned. This will a least narrow the problem down to a specific area.
Ask for a print out of the scan. good luck

This will need a hands on inspection by a qualified mechanic. i suggest the Kia dealership, but at a minimum it needs to go to a different shop than the one you've been taking it to as they seem to not know what they're doing.

My 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier won't turn over.

first check the starter, it may need some cleaning especially the terminals for the contact inside. next the ignition switch, maybe the plastic with the wires is worn out thus not having contact.

When I go to start my 98 cabrio the engine won't turn over, it just clicks. I tried a few more times and it started just fine for about 4 or 5 times. Now it just clicks again. The battery is fairly new and...

Sounds like it could be the starter again. Most aftermarket starters, and alternators too, are rebuilt, and sometimes you get a bad one. You can check the other obvious stuff, battery cables, fuses, relays, etc., but most likely the starter is going.

SL1 won't start, just single click, electronics work

Try charging the battery or jumping the car, your alternator could be shot and not charging the battery.
