A/T or M/T

my guess, is A/T (jumping?)
A/T is complex, take it any tranny shop.
they will diagnose it and tell you.

my wild guess is the tranny has false neutrals?
this is called FLARE,
its bad on the tranny , do not let it FLARE of the problem cascades.
if by jumping you mean it upshifts too soon or late say so.
if by jumping you mean , the shifts are too harsh, say so.
there are 100s of A/T symptoms, each as its own set of tests
and tools needed to diagnose this very complex tranny.
post a more clear symptom and we can better advise.

Suzuki shifts in and out of 3rd

2001 Esteem
A/T tranny.? 4speed?
(check fuses yet?)
this transmission shifts via the TCM electronic brain.
and will throw (store, or live) DTC errors.
IN USA all these cars are OBD2 compliant and all scan tools
work here, you plug it in , and drive and see if there are TRANNY
DTC errors. all cars 1996 and newer, do that. (for sure Suz)

these errors are covered in the FSM and tells you what tests
to do , to isolate (and diagnose) what is wrong.
in and out.
what does that mean.?
to a false neutral? or to 2nd? what?

btw2, the TCM on this car also goes to limphome mode.
when certain DTCs are set. and will skip gears at that moment.
my suz,, both skip 2nd gear in limphome mode.
The TCM needs good inputs or it can't work right.
it has many inputs.
shifter switch PRNDL.
VSS1, VSS2 (veh,speed,sensors)
TPS. (throttle angle.)
ECT. (engine heat)
btw3:
this trans, 4speed, you can do the unplug test on it (FSM)
and it works like a manual transmission, see the FSM for how to do that, this test proves the trans is ok, and the TCM is cause or its inputs are bad.

My 96 baleno sadan has a wind in the gearbox

double posted.
i think you mean Whine? noise.?
whines in what gear.??????? PRNDL?>>>>
whines parked or only moving or both?
is tranny A/T or M/T auto or stick????????????????????????????
my guess is auto.
if the auto whines at any time it's low on fluid, ? or too much (air trubulance caused) or bad a tranny
the problem is many folks don't read the operators guide on how to check ATF levels. and do it wrong, and over fill it big time.
causing what is called airation of the fluid, that in turn, destroys the bearings in said tranny. RTM and do it right.

in the usa we have this $4 manual.
in the usa this car is called the Esteem.
https://suzukipitstopplus.com/Products/1016-1996-esteem-owners-manual.aspx

see transmission page for tranny level checks.
on newer cars you must read the FSM to find this out.

I have a suzuki esteem 2000 . it will not go in revers. all other gears go forward. will not go past 35 ...can any one help pls thank you

what gear cant go past 35?

there are automatic tranny , and manual tranny

which is it.

and what gear is this 35 xxx failure,

is that 35mph or 3500 RPM"?

we can not guess, what is under your right hand (LHD car)?

auto or stick

say all things good about the trans,

like how each of the gears work, not just Reverse.

the good, the bad and the ugly,

then we can get a full picture.

will not go past 35 what wont, surely not Reverse the be world record.

Fill trans fluid

I have been around and around this with the "experts" at the Stealership and I am looking at the same diagrams that they have. They are wrong!! Everybody says that it is a 3/8" square drive plug, NorthEast of the driver's side CV axle but there is no such plug there. What you want to do is locate the speedo cable! (well sort of) These cars don't really have a true mechanical speedo cable. What they have is a little drive gear that creates a signal and sends that signal through a wire to the electronic speedometer. On the Esteem you will see a black plug with wires going to it, right behind that bracket that holds the two shift linkage cables. Think of it above the differential. Just look at the shift cables and look right behind the bracket that holds those cables. There is a 10mm bolt holding the plug in place. You'll need a very long extension. Once that small bolt is freed, you can pop that black plug and wires right out. On the end of the plug will be a plastic gear, it should be oily. I believe the gear case holds about 4.2 pints/2.1 quarts. Good luck!
