I worked at various Ford dealers in the 1990's, and yes, starting in 1996 model year, Ford sold a FFV Taurus that would run E85 , M85 (methanol), or gasoline , but not a Contour.

I run E85 in my 1999 FFV Ranger all the time (Engine VIN code V).
Almost all 1998-2003 3.0 v6 Rangers and 1996-2006 3.0 V6 Tauruses were E85 flex fuel.
It's not something new at all. It just isn't well known.

No 1996 vehicle uses E85
That product wasn't even thought of or
available until a few years ago
The is 85% Alcohol & will ruin your entire fuel system
The car wasn't designed for that fuel,no idea why you
would even go there,just silly

Can I run ethynol (e85) fuel in my 1998 grand voyager. Have always used unleaded 89 octane. Has 200,00 miles.

98 was the first year chrysler introduced an E85 compliant minivan. This only applies to the 3.3 liter engine. The 3.8 liter is NOT compatible.

We have a 99 and this is what we found. It ends up costing us more to run E85 than regular fuel. E85 is less efficient and will decrease your fuel economy 25-30%. Currently the price offset does compensate for this and as a result you will fill up more often and will not see a significant savings after the math is done.

Chrysler also recommended, at the time, to use a special E85 compliant oil which also costs more money. You can check with your local chrysler dealer to see if this is still true.

I thought my 2008 Escape 2.3L 4cyl could run on E85, but when I got through the 1st 1/4 tank, my ck eng lite came on. Is this a result of the fuel or something else?

I don't think any of fords four cylinders are e85 compliant. The escape 3.0 liter didn't become e85 compliant until 2010 if you vehicle was e85 compliant it would have a flex fuel emblem on the side of it and it would have a sticker on the fuel door. Your check engine light is most likely because of the e85. If it's running ok. Burn of that tank and then return to regular gas. The check engine light should go out after a couple of fill ups.

Is E85 safe to use in the 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport?

If your vehicle is equipped with a Flex-Fuel engine it is safe to use E85. If your vehicle is not equipped with a Flex Fuel engine, E85 will cause all kinds of driveability problems including a no-start. The vehicle should say "Flex-Fuel" on it or there will be a green "Leaf" emblem somewhere on the body.
For a 2002 Dodge Caravan, the best way to positively identify the engine is to look at the VIN. The only engine code that is Flex-Fuel is engine code "G". The engine code is the 8th digit of the VIN. The 10th digit is the year of manufacture and should be a "2" on your vehicle. If there is ANY OTHER engine code, DO NOT put E85 in the tank.

I used e85 gasoline instead of regular fuel. would that damage my car. It is a 2009 yaris

Dear Madam or Sir,

no, it will not damage your car but you will encounter problems with starting from cold temperatures and a lack of power running your Yaris on E85 without an extra e85 control unit.

The reason is, that the fuel management system of your car can´t compensate the different properties of E85.
But no worries.
I suggest to refuel with regular petrol when your tank gauge has reached 50 % , you should be fine with that.

E85 Ethanol effects

E85 needs special fuel lines and and all rubber/plastic seals and o-rings must be replaced with versions which are E85 compliant. The ignition timing needs to be altered (easy) as does the ignition advance curve (likely difficult). You may also need a different grade of spark plug and possible changes to the carb jetting (very difficult to get right without access to a dynamometer equipped rolling road).

In short, unless you're having a major rebuild incorporating E85 from the outset and you're happy to experiment with various settings then avoid using E85 altogether as it can cause significant damage. On vehicles certified for use with E85 it's no problem at all.

Does a windstar use e85 fuel?

They have a big deal going on with ethanol mixes, any car will burn E85, any car will run, it may not run perfect. The sensors are not set for ethanol, and neither are the computers. Unless it is a flex-fuel car.
They did a test with a new suburban, ran it on e85, (85% ethanol) and then stripped it down to see what happened. They said it was cleaner than most in some places. Nothing damaged. If people knew this and had the fuel in their town, they would be buying it. I was afraid to run the E15, because of the rumors I heard.

1996 DODGE CARAVAN

If your vehicle can use E85 there is usually a lable on the gas cap or near it that says you can. If no lable is in view then most likely you cannot use E85.
