Problem with my 1987 Nissan Pickup

Engine....4 Cyl,,,,,Only had the truck for 3 months...Only thing I have done was the oil change....It has 149,000 miles. The backfiring,,,,,Always occurs after leave a light....I speed up and it backfires...And jumps....Acts like it will stall or not getting gas. Dear tribefanz: first I need to know which engine you have, there were several used in that truck. I need more details as to when the backfiring occurs? I need a little history on the maintenance, which would be helpful in formulating an opinion. BE HONEST about your maintenance report. If you have done little and you have a lot of miles, so be it.
