your Ignition Switch is bad here is how to replace it The ignition switch is usually mounted to the steering column and is
operated by a linkage rod. NOTE
On column-mounted ignition switches, don't confuse
the switch with the lock cylinder and keys. The ignition switch is not
normally visible.
On some vehicles, the steering column support has to be removed and
the column lowered to find the ignition switch. On others, the switch is
accessible under the dash.

switch. Courtesy of Ford Motor Company.
To replace the switch:
solenoid may be sticking. Have someone start the car, if it sticks tap the solenoid with screw driver handle. If that stops the starter, replace the solenoid. If it were me, I wouldn't bother testing it and just replace solenoid.
Yes, it sounds like your solenoid is bad and staying engaged against the flywheel, you could do an amperage draw and a voltage drop test to find out for sure, but you will need an DVOM and a amp clamp. Or you could take it into an auto parts store and they will test it for free. Hope this helps.
There is either a cable not getting a very good connection, solenoid has problems, or there is a wiring leading to a relay that has a bad connections. How is your ignition? Is it loose or have loose wires?
also check the magnetic switch mounted on the starter housing, is supplied by
current from the starting switch circuit of the ignition switch. This
magnetic action of the switch mechanically engages the starter clutch
assembly and electrically closes the heavy switch which connects it to
the battery. The starting switch circuit consists of the starting
switch contained within the ignition switch, a transmission neutral
safety switch or clutch pedal switch, and the wiring necessary to
connect these in series with the starter solenoid or relay.
