It also grinds going into 1st gear.
1st and 5th are the most stressed gears and the mitsubishi how ever fluid level and also adjusts ments are also possible issues i would check fluid levels as previously stated then adjust the shift cables becaause over time they do stretch and if it is stretched enough it will not allow a full engaement of the gears which can cause grinding or just no power if both of thos dont work look to internal parts like synchros a total shaft replacement will not be the case as the gears are paired on shafts but 1st and 5th are not paired together has there been anytype of work on or around the tranny
