2 months ago i noticed i had to wait for the engine to warm for 10-15 minutes or it just had no power and would stall if accelorator was pushed.lots of blue smoke.i figured that was fuel passing through system..vapor..i week ago i noticed vehicle puffing white smoke on deceleration from tailpipe, but only if i was traveling at 60mph or above.yesterday i was warming up the engine to go to work left it running for about 20 minutes, realized i dindt need to be at work for another hour so turn it off .and after the 1 hour ,tried to start it but no turn over.wont jump,no clicking no whirring no nothing.

I'm not too familiar with an 86 302. Does it have essentially the throttle body unit to meter the gas? (looks like a computer controlled 2 bbl carb) or does it have some some funky intake system?
At any rate, check the tightness of the bolts where the throttle body unit attaches to the intake manifold. You may have to replace the gasket (if any) that resides betwixt these two pieces as well. Sound like a vacuum leak, so check the boss on the "back" of the motor where many vacuum lines are connected and make sure they are all firmly on their nipple and check the condition of the vacuum lines themselves to make sure they are not cracked or split.
good luck.
SOURCE: 2005 ford ranger fuel pump relay gets hot and engine dies
Like Laurie Mack said. It is the inertia switch below the glove box. Here is some funny information. DON'T change the fuel pump first. Interesting fact: I bought the new inertia switch from Ford and the install instructions that came with it said to install the switch in the protected area to the right where the fuses are. It is like Ford knows it was a dumb place to put the inertia switch, but they won't let you know until after you buy a new one. I have read at least 20 other people on here that had the same problem I just had.

okay try this....talk to your parts store and get a battery load tester, and find out if the battery is indeed dead. My guess is it sounds like the Altenator is dying. they are around 50-100 and can be install by a pro in minutes.

have fuel injection system cleaned
Testimonial: "Thank you for the quick reply. This was one of my first thoughts along with possibility of a blocked fuel filter, fuel pump, or plugs/coil connectors."
