Changing a 1991 Mazda Protege Serpentine Belt

Would like to change the alternator V belt on a 1991 Mazda Protege and the serpentine belt must come off first. Looks like the AC pulley is where this loosens. Can anyone tell me how to do this?
Thanks,
Ed

You've got to loosen the mounting bolt first, which is located behind the pulley itself. Rotate the pulley until the large opening allows access to the bolt, then use a socket with a narrow head to turn the bolt, just until it starts to turn freely.
Then there are two locknuts on the adjuster; one right near the mounting bolt and one underneath towards the middle of the pump. Loosen both of those, and then *finally* you'll be able to turn the adjusting bolt that faces the front end of the car on the end of the adjuster arm. It's a long bolt; just keep turning that thing until the belt loosens enough to come off the pulley.
Best of luck!

By the way, I forgot to mention at the start that the adjustment for the PS/AC belt is on the power steering pump, not the air conditioning compressor.
Technically, it's not a serpentine belt, either; on that year they're just plain ordinary fan belts. :)

Replaced the serpentine belt on a mazda protege then the engine runs hot dropping voltage and now wont start at all is this all from the belt?

Could be. The serpentine belt powers the alternator and the water pump. Maybe the belt is on wrong and running them backward. You would not be the first one to put a belt on wrong.

How do I Change the alternator belt on my mazda?

IF IT IS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE OTHER BELTS, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS UNBOLT THE TOP OF THE ALTERNATOR, AND PUSH IT IN TO LOOSEN THE BELT FOR REMOVAL! IF IT IS IN BACK OF THE BELTS (ESPECIALLY A SERPENTINE BELT) YOU'LL HAVE TO REMOVE THE SERPENTINE BELT FIRST! THERE WILL BE A TENSION PULLEY HOLDING THE BELT TIGHT! YOU'LL NEED TO USE A WRENCH TO PULL THE TENSION PULLEY TOWARD YOU TO LOOSEN BELT! WATCH HOW YOU REMOVE IT, BCUS YOU'LL NEED TO PUT IT BACK ON THE SAME WAY! THEN REMOVE, AND REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR BELT AS BEFORE, THEN REPLACE THE SERPENTINE BELT!

How do you replace a serpentine belt on a mazda 626

A 626 has two belts. One drives the power steering and water pump (rear belt in 6 cyl) and other front belt drives the a/c and alternator. On the 4 cyl, the front belt drives the power steering and the a/c, and the rear belt drives the water pump and the alternator. All of these are easy to change.

Belts making noise

Simply check is to replace the serpentine belt tensioner. Looks like this:

Another reason you might have alternator going to die. Try to rotate the alternator rotor without belt on it. If you need to use force no free rotation, replace the alternator.
Please kindly let me know if you need more info
Good Luck
