Idler pulley bracket where can I buy one or is there an alternative to it

you need to post year, make, model and what engine?
also which idler pulley? I'm guessing you're probably looking at the accessories drive belt ("fan belt") idler pulley bracket.
Is this a serpentine belt.
a lot of cars use Idler and or tensioner pulleys on the timing belt/chain. the Idlers often don't have brackets
why are you replacing the bracket? did you break it? or do you just need the pulley? I normally replace both pulleys (idler and tensioner) when replacing either one.
anyways.. need a lot more info to answer your question

How to replace timing belt corolla 1995

A timing belt replacement is a very complex job but can be done and here is how.
first locate the belt, it should be behind a cover on the front of your engine (behind all the other belts)
second and most importantly DON'T CRANK THE ENGINE!!!! ( if you already have cranked it or you suspect the camshaft or crank shaft has moved then you will need to find top dead center or TDC I will explain this a little later).

step 1
jack the car up and support with jack stands (for transverse mounted FWD engines remove the passenger wheel and access cover)

step 2
remove serpentine belt and any accessory items in the way (I.E. power steering pump, A/C.) and remove the timing belt cover

step 3
remove timing belt tensioner, and idler pulleys as well as the belt itself.

step 4
align crankshaft and cam shaft. removal of crankshaft pulley may be necessary. remove #1 spark plug and plug hole with finger , have assistant rotate crankshaft until pressure is felt on finger. once you find this align the arrows on the crankshaft pulley and engine block.
for the camshaft pulley just rotate it to align with the arrow on the head.

step 5
install new tensioner ( if new tensioner comes equipped with a pin to hold it in the "no tension " position leave it in) and idler pulleys it is always recommended but not always needed to replace all timing belt components. Install new belt and release tensioner pin.

step 6
rotate engine manually 2 full revolutions and ensure that timing marks are still aligned. install #1 spark plug and re-assemble front of engine

Start and pray! Like I said, timing belt replacement is very important to get right. if you got something wrong you will know it immediately.

hope this helps! good luck!

How do i release the tension belt ... cant seem to find bolt being referred to in other docs

Here's the procedure on how to release and replace the tension belt of your car.

Step 1
  • Open the hood on the Volvo S-60 and find the serpentine-belt routing diagram. The diagram should be attached to the top of the fan shroud that covers the radiator. If not, draw out the exact routing method of the serpentine belt around each pulley with a pen and a piece of paper.
  • Step 2 Locate the serpentine-belt tensioner that is in the very center of the engine. The tensioner will have a square bolt head in the center of the tensioner pulley.
  • Step 3 Slide the open end of the 5/8-wrench onto the square bolt head in the center of the belt-tensioner pulley. Turn the tensioner pulley counterclockwise and slide the serpentine belt off of the tensioner pulley.
  • Step 4 Remove the serpentine belt from the other pulleys and pull the belt out of the engine compartment.
  • Step 5 Slide the new serpentine belt into the engine compartment and around the crankshaft pulley.
  • Step 6 Route the new serpentine belt around each pulley. Turn the belt-tensioner pulley counterclockwise again and slide the serpentine belt around the tensioner pulley. Release the tensioner and it will tighten the belt around the pulleys. Look over the belt to ensure that it is inside of each pulley.
  • Step 7 Crank the S-60 and look over the serpentine belt with the motor running. Let the engine run for about one minute and shut the engine off. Close the hood.

Timing marks on a 2000 volvo v40 1.9t crank and cam marks

    Timing belt alignment markings

    9c6ff12.gif

Here is all the tech info for removing and replacing....hope this helps you:

    4-Cylinder Engine
    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
    2. Remove or disconnect the following:
      • Negative battery cable
      • Right hand engine cover
      • Cover over the right headlamp
      • Accessory drive belt
      • Front timing cover
      • Servo reservoir
    3. Position Volvo lifting beam 999 5006 or equivalent slightly in front of the front lifting eyelet for the engine. Use Volvo lifting arm 999 5383 or equivalent and Volvo lifting hook 999 5460 or equivalent to raise the front of the engine a few millimeters.
    4. Remove or disconnect the following:
      • Right-hand engine mount
      • Right front wheel
    5. Turn the crankshaft until the markings on the crankshaft and camshaft pulley correspond. Turn the crankshaft a further 1/4 turn clockwise and then back again until the markings correspond. The markings are illustrated. Remove the upper timing cover.
    6. Slacken off the center screw for the belt tensioner slightly.
    7. Turn the tensioner clockwise to 10 o'clock.
    8. Remove or disconnect the following:
      • Air baffles
      • Lower belt cover
      • Timing belt

    To install:
    1. Turn all the pulleys listening for bearing noise. Check to see that the contact surfaces are clean and smooth. If the tensioner pulley lever or idler is seized, replace it.
    2. If replacing with a new idler pulley, tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
    3. If replacing tension pulley, screw into place using the center bolt by hand. Ensure that the tensioner fork is centered over the cylinder block rib. Ensure that the Allen hole on the eccentric is at "10 o'clock".
    4. Install the timing belt in the following order:
      1. Around the crankshaft sprocket
      2. Around the idler pulley
      3. Around the camshaft sprockets
      4. Around the water pump
      5. Onto the belt tensioner
    5. Carefully turn the crankshaft clockwise until the timing belt is tensioned. The belt must be tensioned between the intake camshaft pulley, the idler pulley and the crankshaft
    6. Hold the belt tensioner center screw secure. Turn the belt tensioner eccentric counter-clockwise until the tensioner indicator passes the marked position.
    7. Then turn the eccentric back so that the indicator reaches the marked position in the center of the window and tighten the center bolt to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
    8. Press the belt to check that the indicator on the tensioner moves easily.
    9. Install or connect the following:
      • Lower belt guard
      • Air baffles
      • Upper timing cover
    10. Turn the crankshaft two turns. Check that the markings on the crankshaft and camshaft pulley correspond.
NOTE Check that the indicator on the belt tensioner is within the marked area.

    1. Install or connect the following:
      • Lower timing cover
      • Front timing cover and tighten to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm)
      • Accessory drive belt
      • Engine mount and tighten to 49 ft. lbs. (67 Nm)
      • Servo reservoir. Tighten bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
      • Front wheel
      • Right hand engine cover
      • Cover over the right headlamp
      • Negative battery cable

How easy it is to change the cam belt on volvo 850 10v 96 plate

1 1/2 TO 2 hours worth of work. Since you have to pull the serpentine belt to get to the timing belt you might as well do that one while you are at it. When I do the timing belt I replace the idler pulleys, tensioner and water pump all at the same time. www.FCPGroton.com is a great place to buy the parts, they sale the timing belt, pulleys, tensioner and waterpump as a kit. Here's a good pictoral on the work: http://volvospeed.com/Repair/timingbelt.php

1996 Grand AM 3.1L serpentine belt replacement

    Try this procedure.
    0900823d8004ed44.jpg

To replace a worn belt, locate the idler or generator pulley.

    0900823d8004ed45.jpg

Loosen the hold-down fastener for the idler or generator pulley.

    0900823d8004ed46.jpg

Pry the idler or generator pulley inward to release the belt tension and remove the belt.

    0900823d8004ed47.jpg

Match the old belt up for size with the new replacement belt.

    0900823d8004ed48.jpg

Observe the belt routing diagram in the engine compartment.

    0900823d8004ed49.jpg

Install the new belt over each of the drive pulleys. Often the manufacturer recommends a sequence for feeding the belt around the pulleys.

Pry out the idler or generator pulley to put tension on the belt.
Pry out the idler or generator pulley to put tension on the belt.

    0900823d8004ed74.jpg

Install the belt squarely in the grooves of each pulley.

    0900823d8004ed75.jpg

Before adjusting belt tension, check for proper pulley alignment. This is especially critical with serpentine belts. Measure the belt deflection in its longest span. If a belt tension gauge is available, use it and compare the tension to specifications.
If a belt is too tight, wear to bearings for the water pump, alternator, and engine crankshaft can result.
Some late-model Chrysler engines require a torque reading to be taken when tension is applied to the generator drive belt. This is especially important on the longer, multiribbed V-belts.

    0900823d8004ed76.jpg

Pry the idler or generator pulley to adjust the belt to specifications.

    0900823d8004ed77.jpg

Tighten the idler or generator pulley fastener.

    0900823d8004ed78.jpg

Start the engine and check the belt for proper operation.

Any more questions please ask. Good luck.
