98 honda shutts off and will not start until cooled off

I have a 98 honda civic hatch with a 1.6 automatic it runs fine until it gets up to normal operating temp then the engine shuts down and will not restart until it has cooled I already replaced the pickup and the coil with no change

Mine is doing some thing similar. Mine wont shut down but it runs like it dropped 2 cylinders. This happens when it reaches a set temp on my gage. I did disconnect the the coolant temp sensor and it did stop missing. I tried to drive it but it still missed but not nearly as bad as before. It may have still missed because it was disconnected. I wasn't getting a code either untill I disconnected it. The price isn't too bad to replace it so I may try a replacement. It beats replacing the Idle Air Control Valve for over $200 (new). I did replace it though with one from a junk yard and it didn't help either.

You say the engine shuts down when it gets hot if it runs rough before doing so it could be the coolant temperature sensor allowing the engine to  overfuel  if the engine cuts out in a couple of seconds but sounds smooth it could be the fuel pump , if it cuts out instantly its electrical.

1991 honda civic dx hatch. d15b2 motor. brother drove it to school and it wouldnt start when he went to leave that afternoon. we replaced the distributor cap, rotor, ignition module, coil tests fine. what...

how does the engine sound while turning over does it sound normal is the timing belt still intact. if the timing belt is still intact and the engine sounds like it don't have any compression replace the plug but before installing new plugs get a qt of oil and pour about 1 or 2 caps full of oin in each cylinder this will help build the compression and hopefully it should start if it does it will smoke a few minutes but will be fine.

91 honda civic shutting down after ten minutes of running

There is not an OBD connection on this vehicle but there is a diagnostic port under the hood. It is usually mounted on a bracket on the engine.

OK i have a 91 honda civic hatchback and the engine was rebilt..it runs fine...however when i start it cranks for awhile before it starts...the starter and battery are fine however the carborator sticks...

That flap is automatic the choke. Not the throttle. Cleaning it should restore normal operation. Avoid spray plastic parts if there is any such as plastic bushing used in carburator linkage, other than that I cant think of any bigger underlying problem. Avoid prolonged high speed on rebuilt engines untill its broken in(500 miles)

Transmission problems

they should have suggested changing tranny screen and filter if tranny isnt maintained every 20,000to 30,000 you end up with gray like particles from normal wear wich get caught in the screen and valve body wich leads to erractic shifting valve body problems eventually tranny replacement number 1 rule oil changes on motor and screen and filter on tranny prevents premature wear longer life to two major key factors
