Check your control arm bushing. Just had a similar issue with me 1999 Jimmy. Bushing were out.

Hello I have a 2003 gmc envoy 4wd had to replace front hub assemblies, brake rotors and brake pads. after the job was complete took it for a test drive and every thing worked fine. my wife drove it back...

sounds like the ABS kicked in while your wife was coming to a stop. This would be known as overactive ABS. It usually occurs under 5 mph while braking. It is usually caused by a speed sensor signal dropping out at slow speeds which makes the ABS module think that the wheel has locked up. It will then engage the ABS to unlock the wheel even though the wheel is turning. The brake pedal will fade and the grind of the ABS motor will be heard.

If this was an isolated incident it will be difficult to determine the source of the problem. It it becomes more frequent and predictable it will become a lot easier to figure out. Most of the time a scan tool capable of reading ABS data will be used. The vehicle will be driven while monitoring ABS wheel speed data. When the problem occurs the wheel speed on one of the wheels will drop out and then that wheel/bearing/sensor can be inspected.

Did you torque the axle nuts after installing the new hub and bearings to the proper spec?

Have you checked to see if the new bearings are still tight? with the wheel off the ground grab it at the 12 and 6 o'clock position. if there is any play than that could cause the problem.

Juddering brakes when stopping

if your abs light is on a code can be retrieved naming the possible culprit a wheel speed sensor or the abs module could be faulty if you have no light on then i would definately say the module is bad

Strange "scraping" noise as car decelerates toward a stop

speed sensitive issue could more likely be a loose heat shield on the exhaust system. this would change with speed and heat. check hangers and connecters on exhaust, I've come across a muffler clamp that set up quite a rattle as it vibrated around the ex. pipe. could be a bent dust shield on one of the disc brakes that is rubbing on the rotor but would likely change with steering direction. take off and check the belt pulleys and idlers for a loose bearing assembly.

Is there any "clunking" when going from f to reverse? drive train joints could be responsible, and they would be sensitive to power up or deceleration differences. usually more of a vibration and not a loud noise however.

This is a problem with the ABS applying itself prematurely. From my personal experience with this vehicle this could happen for a few reasons.
  1. One of the wheel ABS speed sensors are Bad and providing a false reading that the car is about to skid before a complete stop and therefore actives the ABS. ( that's the pushing back of the pedal that you feel at slow speeds just before a FULL STOP).
  2. Its can be also cause by the gear that the sensor is reading or getting its signal from, (this gear is on the Axles and its goes in to the Hubs).
This can also because by the ABS unit itself that's malfunctioning and in my opinion should be under warranty from TOYOTA.
In my experience in my shop it was the ABS unit once and the ABS sensor about 3 times.
Here is mu suggestion have this vehicle hooked up to a SNAP-ON scanner with ABS program and drive ON LIVE DATA while driving look at wheel speeds coming from ABS/speed sensors on wheels. They should all be the same. Try to duplicate problem(hitting bumps on brakes etc) At this time if there is a problem with the sensor it should show a different speed and it will activate ABS. Buzzing noise

check under vehicle on frame rail drivers side, should see abs assembly, disconnect red wire buzzing will stop, will have to replace assembly, will not have abs braking, will have base brakes, if red brake light comes on do not drive vehicle, have towed to repair shop

Brake pedal

It could quite possibly be the gears and bearings in your differential are wearing and it is loose. You will only notice this when you come to a complete stop because the vehicle rocks back and forth and makes that nasty clunking noise that makes you believe it is your brakes or a loose/worn wheel hub assembly. Have someone go a few inches forward and slam on the brakes in your driveway while you look under the truck at the diff. See if it is sloppy when the vehicle is stopping. Do it in reverse as well. My brother in law's truck (a Tahoe) does that and he thought it was the braking system as well.
