1988 nissan pickup engine rotates but does'nt start.

I own a 1988 nissan pickup. It's a 4 cyl with 8 spark plugs. The engine rotates but does'nt start.Gas is getting to the throttle body but still wont start. When i pour a little gas straight into it it starts for a second then shuts off. But if i pour gas into the throttle body and keep my hand over the throttle body so no air gets in, the truck runs but at a high rpm. is the throttle body not getting air? someone please help. Thanks again everyone. I've replaced fuel pump, filter, ecu, ignition coils, plugs and wires, rotor and cap 4 distributor. But didnt replace the actual distributor yet.

Seems like to me you may have a massive "vacuum" leak somewhere. When covering the carb so no air gets in, it runs and at high r.p.m. Do you hear a loud hissing noise from around the motor? If so, I would trace it do and repair the culprit. I hope this helps you out in the repairs :o) Jesus loves you, John 3:16-17 (KJV)

2004 Nissan Frontier V4. I need the firing order diagram please.

You own a V4 version? You have a prototype version that was stolen from the factory R & D department!

The mid-size pickup concept for SEMA also gets a wider track, a cold air intake, a cat-back exhaust, and all sorts of NISMO visual add-ons. Nissan dropped the Titan's 400-hp, 5.6-liter V-8 into a Frontier pickup to create this concept for SEMA. The Frontier is only available with a 3.8-liter V-6 from the factory.

Perhaps you mean STRAIGHT 4?

Check for spark at a couple of plugs and if you have spark spray some carb cleaner in the throttle body to see if she will run .

Spark plug connections Nissan Urvan 1985 4 cylinder

I have never heard of an Urvan, but I have an '87 Nissan Sentra with a 4 cyl. 1.6L engine. All Nissan 4 cylinder engines number the cylinders 1 through 4, number 1 always being at the front of the engine.
And the firing order is always1-3-4-2. So on the distributor cap, the spark plug wires will be arranged in that order. 1, then 3, 4, 2-and back to one, you see? I think, if I recall correctly, that the distributor shaft and the rotor turn counter-clockwise, but whichever it is you follow the order of rotation from 1 to 3 to 4 to 2. You can easily check your direction of rotation: with the distributor cap off, have someone turn the key to start for one or two seconds. You will see the rotor turning, and then you know to follow the firing order in that direction. Post back with comments or if I can be of further help. Where are you?

My crank shaft is rotating twise the crank shaft. HOW MY 1342 FIRING WILL OCCURE?, I can spare only 30 digree for charge and spark plug contact. THERE ARE ONLY 2+2 CYLINDER. 180 DIGREE APPART KINDLY REPLY...

Your crankshaft turns 2x times the camshaft. Put it this way as # 1 cylinder reaches TDC (top dead center) of the firing/compression stroke, and this will be after a (8 degs BTDC) spark to ignite the air/fuel mix, the # 3 cyl. will be at BDC of the intake stroke and as #1 begins its power down stroke, (during explosion of air/fuel mix), #3 begins its compression up stroke, the #4 cyl. will be coming down with #1 cyl. but #4 will be in the beginning of its intake down stroke, and #2 cyl. will be coming up with #3 but #2will be in its BDC of the exhaust stroke. Which has just fired previously to #1. 1342134213421342 etc. Now the cam turns to open / close the valves; In the outline above, #1 cyl. valves will both be closed. #3 cyl. will have the intake starting to close at this point. #4 cyl. will just be starting to open its intake valve, and #2 will be starting to open its exhaust valve. Is all this clear as mud? So as the crank makes one full rotation (in a 4cyl. engine) only the firing of one cylinder has happened.and at every rotation one cyl. will fire. So #1 at TDC then one full rotation, #1 back at TDC, but this TDC is half of its 4 cycles, (1)Intake, (2)compression, (3)power, (4)exhaust. this 1234 refers to the 4 cycles of the rotation not firing order.

I changed my spark plug wires and possibly have them connected wrong. Is there a schematic that I might follow in order to ensure they are connected correctly?

FIRING ORDERS NOTE: To avoid confusion, remove and tag the spark plug wires one at a time, for replacement. If a distributor is not keyed for installation with only one orientation, it could have been removed previously and rewired. The resultant wiring would hold the correct firing order, but could change the relative placement of the plug towers in relation to the engine. For this reason it is imperative that you label all wires before disconnecting any of them. Also, before removal, compare the current wiring with the accompanying illustrations. If the current wiring does not match, make notes in your book to reflect how your engine is wired. Fig. 1: 1988-95 4.3L Engines Firing Order: 1-6-5-4-3-2 Distributor Rotation: Clockwise 91022g01.gif
