Chasing some ideas. My 2005 diesel rodeo speedo intermittently becomes erratic. I have only had the car for three months and this issue came up about three weeks after getting it. On ocassions the speedo acts like the tacho, as you push down on the accelerated the speedo shoots up like the tacho even if you not moving. As you release your foot from the accelerated the speedo drops back. The car can go for a number of days and be fine, then be an issue for a day, then be normal again. Ideas?

Check the Vehicle Speed Sensor. It runs the speedo and sends a signal to the computer.

SOURCE: speedo and abs light on bmw 5 series

I've had the same problem twice on my 1999 528. The problem is your ABS module. (Bosch 5.7 to be exact.) The failure mode is temperature sensitive and shows up after driving. To test this, turn off the car, get a can of freeze spray and cool down the module. Inverting a can of compressed air used for computer cleaning works too. Give it a healthy freeze, then start up the car again. If the lights are out, then you know your problem.
All sorts of things don't work when the module is bad. Speedo, windshield washers only give you one speed, fuel gauge drifts back and forth, cruise control,  check engine lights, airbag lights .... and so on, you get the picture, basically anything connected to the computer. My new (great) mechanic calls this the BMW christmas tree.
You can either replace the module with a new one from the dealer, very expensive, or get it rebuilt. There are a number of rebuilders out there, so take your pick. I've used ModuleMaster in the past and they've been great. $300 and works like a charm. Google them to find their web site, and good luck.

SOURCE: 2000 VW Jetta V5 accelerator/idling problem

these cars are fitted with a fly by wire accelerator pedal that is controlled electronically by the cars computer it is possible that there is a computer problem or the throttle body ( air intake system )or accelerator pedal is playing up.
it is highly possible that the car is doing exactly what you say it is i recommend you take it back to VW and demand that they take a proper look at it you might have to leve it with them for a couple of days and get a service advisor to drive it home so as they can see the problem ocure.
regardles the cars computer should of thrown a code declaring a fault in the system witch should give the tecs some were to start looking.

good luck with this problem if you have any outher questions let me no

Nissan Frontier 2005 diesel car slows intermittently when accelerating take the foot of and back on the accelerator and it works again any ideas

When was the last time it was serviced? I had this issue on a different car and it turned out to be a 'Very' dirty fuel filter. Bad quality 'cheap' fuel or some types of 'Bio' diesel can cause similar problems.
Lifting your foot lets the fuel pump catch up supplying fuel.
This is also a reasonably cheap fix.

The speedo just started acting erratic, I live a cold climate. It has acted funny til the car warmed up.but is ok after that.Anyone with similar problems with a fix would be appreciated.

on an 05 the speedo gets its signal from a sensor in the back of the transmission , this same sensor info is used to decide what gear to put trans in , id get under and look real good at it to see if its got any evidence of damage (scrapes or snags) to it , or even shotguning it an replacing it wouldn't be a bad idea

My RODEO RA 2007 has the engine management light on and no speedo any ideas on the problem

run the fault codes and check for problems in the transmission. Engine lights also cover problems in transmissions ,not just the engine. I would look for a problem VSS sensor.

Hi, I have a 52 plate ford fiesta with intermittent speedo problems. Speedo goes off and engine light comes on. Any ideas? Sharon

Hi,

When your Engine Check light comes on, it means your computer has detected a fault and wil have stored the code in your computer. This code can be read by your local Ford dealership, using an OBDII scan tool.

An intermittent speedo problem is probably caused by an issue with the Vehicle Speed sensor (or wiring), which is mounted on your transmission case (see No. 7 in diagram below):

As you have indicated your vehicle is 2011, you should have this issue rectified under the New Car Warranty and repaired at no cost.

take it to a diesel specialist shop
there is an idle/fuel control module on the pump that could be the fault
having the fault codes read is a good idea as well

Boss has 2005 Yukon, says speedometer shows random numbers (ie, 40 mph while stopped or 40 mph when doing 60. Intermittent problem sometimes fine.) Any helpful hints appreciated.

The speedo in electronic and can have various circuit board problems. I've had to cars with erratic speedos and in both cases the dealer said replace them and big buck bills. I found a shop that repairs them and charges $100 buck and free shipping back. About a 4 day turnaround.
