My tail light fuse for the lights being on at night without stepping on the brakes keeps blowing. I replaced the fuse numerous times, sometimes it lasts for a little while, most times it blows within minutes. Where can i look for what could be tripping the fuse to blow each time? Anything to do with having an aftermarket stereo? Thanks.
Ever since i installed my new aftermarket stereo and amp every time i flick my head lights on it blows the fuse, i tried putting a higher amprage fuse in but again blew.(do not attepmt) i finnally got the problem fixed when i took out my cd player and made sure no wires were bare, mae sure all wires are hooked up or have electrical tape over the bare end. if the problem continues u have a serious electrical shortage.

91 honda accord lx, fuse keeps blowing for tail lights. changed rear bulb sockets but still, same problem. fuse blows soon as i turn on the park lights. what can be the problem?
Electricity always finds the path of least resistance. it leaves the source (battery or Alternator) and tries to return to that source. and if a wire that is connected to your brake lights has a pinched or exposed wire. Then if that part of the wire touches your frame or any other solid ground...then it will short out thus blowing a fuse instead of cooking your wires and causing a fire. since you were messing with the stereo i would start there...try taking out the stereo and start your car with the lights on...apply the brakes... maybe you were just pinching a wire ...also try moving some of the wire harnesses and try the lights on then.Hopefully you can nail this problem down. and tape with electrical tape to keep it from contacting anything else. hope this helps
The Tail lights and Instrument lights are usually on the same circuit so both will go out if the fuse for the circuit blows. Check for a blown fuse for this circuit and replace if out. If fuse continues to fail, check the tail light or side globes for a faulty globe and replace if necessary. Also check for any chafed wires that could be shorting to the body causing the fuse to blow.
