How do i turn on the cruise control for a 96 land rover discovery??

  • Anonymous Mar 24, 2009

Ya, my Land Rover didnt come with the owners manual, and i havent come across a Chilton or Haynes book in the local automotive stores yet, so ya, that little button of a road running straight under an overpass was actually my guess on how to engage the cruise....unforntunately nothing happens, so now i gotta get under the hood and find that hose or connecter and fix it...my problem is my lead foot, i speed too much so i constantly need to use it!!!

Like many cruise control systems there are the working controls and sepearate master power switch that can disable cruise control so it can't be turned on accidentally. The working controls to set speed, acc and off are on the steering wheel. There is a master power switch though on the center area of the dash next to the left of heater controls on a US model. It is a picture of a road running straight under an overpass.

The system is vaccumm controlled though and if you have a vaccumm leak it will not work. They are pretty easy to fix though and easy to see. Open the hood and find the throttle body assembly. Look for the throttle cable and in that area there should be a black soft plastic hose about the thickness of a pen. If this is diconnected from any connectors or cracked the cruise control won't work. Good Luck!

SOURCE: 2003 land rover discovery cruise control system

if it stopped working make sure your brake lights aren't on. If they are you have a bad brake switch (located under the brake pedal). It's easy to replace. If the lights are not on check the vacuum hose isn't split coming off the intake area. easy fix as well.

How to DIY 2004 discovery cruise control not working?

land rover used a vacuum set up check the vacuum line at the actuator, usually crack at the actuator, cut end off and put back on. also check to see if brake lights are on all the time when key is on if so then brake switch, also would add check the fuse first and the vaccum pump may need replaced if you dont find anything with vacuum lines, fuse, brake switch, replace the actuator before you replace the pump.

I NEED A 96 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY REPAIR MANUAL

You won't find a down loadable repair manual for a vehicle on the internet (they are just to large) but you can usually find used ones on ebay motors for a reasonable price.

My son has a 96 Land Rover Discovery I that the

You need to start by removing the inner door panel, Remove screws that hold door pull and inside release handle. There are multiple plastic clips that have to be popped out. Use screwdriver but a trim clip removal tool works better.(Lisle tools part #35400). Once panel is loose unhook elecrical connectors to panel, peel back plastic vapour barrier, access to all latch parts, rods window regulator , etc is now available.

No vacum to cruise control

make sure you dont have a vacuum leak first, before you replace the switch. The number one cause of cruise control dropping out on these older range rovers is a leaking vacuum hose.
