How to change feul pump - 1995 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight

remove the tank, remove the lock ring securing the pump in tank, lift out pump and remove from mounting location. Replace new pump reverse of removal.

Hope you will not be offended but this sounds like possibly a poor maintenance issue. Filters can seriously damage performance and consumption on most engines. Might be good to have them checked out or if you air capable change them yourself. Good Luck,

Yes, it can be the relay. What I do is unplug the relay and swap it gor yhe horn relay. If this doesn't work, I use a volt/ohmmeter to probe the relay socket. Doing this, I can usually find the problem. With the key on , there should be two terminals in the socket that have battery voltage and one that is grounded. The last terminal goes to the pump and should show low ohms to ground. In your truck, the relay coil is connected to ground and turned on by the ecm with a positive signal. It also seems to depend on the oil pressure switch, so you might want to temporarily bypass the switch with a paper clip in the connector to see if that is keeeping the pump from running.

did you change feul filter? some of these will install backwards and will have no flow.is there enough feul in tank? did you replace or clean sock at bottom of feul pump

start checking fuel pressure easier then changing pump re check that all is plugged in by air cleaner

change the feul filter first. if that does not do it change the feul pump module with the new wire harness for the pump. do not put in a new pump with the old harness.

this could be a number of problems,check the voltage with a volt meter,not a test light at the fuel pump connection. make sure you have 12V,if so unhook the fuel supply line,turn key to ON not START, and make sure the pump will continue to flow,( obviously cqatch the fuel with a pail,or put a hose on it to pump it into a pail,don't let it leak all over the place.)if the pump continues to flow with out shutting off,your pump,filter,and electrical for your pump is ok.it could be a restriction in the return line,or the regulator may not be functioning.un hook the return line as close to engine as possible,install hose on it and route to a pail to catch fuel,with supply line hooked back up,start van and see if it works,if it keepd shutting off,you've now eliminated return line problems.check the regulator.

Did you install a new pump? Used pumps may be cheaper but not if you have to change them.

Had a similar problem before. Change the feul filter. This often fails due to sand in gas and limits gas being pumped into your turbo. If you change this and the cars runs fine, eventually you will have to change the feul pump. Do the feul filter first. It's cheap and easy.
