2002 Toyota Echo running louder

My 2002 Toyota Echo has started to run a bit louder than normal. It sounds as if it is a background growling noise. At idle, the noise is very slight, however, when I get into 2nd and 3rd gear the noise becomes more noticeable. I changed the drive belts on the car the other day with the front of the car up on a ramp. After starting the car back up, the check engine light came on. I hooked up the OBD II reader which gave me a code of P1656. I looked up this code which said it was the oil control valve. The next day, however, the check engine light went out. The noise in the engine is still present though. My question is would the Oil Control Valve code show up because the front of the car was up on the ramp and not allowing oil to the Oil Control Valve. And would this explain why the check engine light went out the following day? Or is this what is causing the engine to run louder and needs to be replaced. Or is it something else altogether?

The oil control valve will not cause the engine to be loud and if you jacked it up you probably cutoff some of the flow to the oil control valve the big problems with these car are the exhaust manifolds had too replace 2 on mine also get your exhaust system checked

YOU GOT IT. I'm sure the oil pressure went low when the car was on ramps causing a CE light. The louder noise poss wrong belt or exhaust leak!?

SOURCE: 1993 TOYOTA TERCEL 1500cc Valve Seals Replaced now smokes much worse

You either have had the wrong valve seals installed, they are physically missing, or the valves are incorrect (too loose in the guides/stem too thin). The rocker arm seals will not contribute to your issue. If it did not have the oil smoke before you took the head off, the issue is with whatever the machine shop did. Valve seals have to fit TIGHT, or oil will go down the valve stem into the intake.
Take the head back to the machine shop & tell them to fix it. For free.

SOURCE: Oil Leak (major) 1997 Camry 2.2 ltr.

The noise might be oil on the timing belt. The oil leak might be from the oil pump gasket. The oil pump is ran by the timing belt and the leak would saturate the timing belt. Inspect the belt

SOURCE: check engine light fault code PO505

This code is for your electronic throttle control system it probably needs to be cleaned the butter fly sticks due to build up in side the throttle body clean with tooth brush and emission save throttle body cleaner clear codes and then dissconnect the battery for 3 hours hook back up then go for a short drive stop and go to reset idle control that should take care of this.

Sounds like the starter need to be replace or rebuilt.
The clicking is due to the starter still partially engaged. Grooves are worn on the contactors and the plunger is sticking in the starter.

02 Durango: loud engine/exhaust sound. Also Recently noticed the cooling fan running more than normal; had someone check the antifreeze/coolant....it was empty....had them put in a 50/50mix of coolant and...

That noise is probably the air injection system which is part of the emmision system. When it is making that noise, open the hood and determine where it is coming from, note if it is a mechanical sound, etc. The air injection if equiped would sound almost like forced air scaping somewhat like an exhaust leak, but less intense.
