Dodge HVAC help

I have a 2012 Dodge Avenger with the automatic temperature control for the a/c. I am getting a major temperature difference between the dash vents and defroster vent. When its cold out I can get warm air out of the dash but it turns ice cold when turned to defrost mode unless I crank the heat to max. I took it in and was told they could find nothing wrong. This can't be normal is it? When it's cold out I can still get warm air out of the dash vents with the a/c on so I know its not the a/c turning on to cause that.

Check the actuator motors on the heater, they move the arms that move the doors that direct the heat to dash or bottom of car. They are located on the heater at the bottom on the inside of the car.

SOURCE: Vent control

You have a vacuum leak.Defrost is the default postion(no vacuum).
See if you can locate the small black vacuum line that goes inside the vehicle on the passenger side near the heater core. The trace it back, should see it going to a canister then to the intake manifold.Make sure it is not disconnected or broken somewhere.

SOURCE: heating / air conditioning control stuck to front defrost vents

There is a vacuum leak under the hood. Find the vacuum line on the passenger side where it comes through the firewall and follow it to the engine. You system needs vacuum to operate and without it the default setting is on defrost for safety reasons.

Heater Not Working Correctly

I have the same problem with my Dodge Avenger. The issue is with the heater core. The company that made the heater cores for Dodge that year put to much flux in it. The flux comes loose and you get a sludge build up in the heater core that drops to the bottom of it. The heat for the passenger side blows on the bottom of the heater core. So that is why the air is cool on that side. Solution: you can try flushing the the system. If you take the cap off the coolant reservoir you will see the sludge build up. It has a reddish tint to it. Hope this helps.
