My 2005 Chevrolet cobalt driver side manual roll down window will not roll completely down. It only rolls about 3/4 way down and then I hit resistance. When I click the unlock/lock button on my keys the driver side door will not lock/unlock. It makes a grinding noise. I can manually lock and unlock the driver side door fine though.

New switch for the passenger side. The drivers side switch may be wired through the passengers side switch witch will make it not work if the passengers side switch is bad. Just a thought. Hope this helps.
Yes there should be a stop if the window is power. You may be missing a guide also. Someone will need to pull the door panel off and take a look at the tracks.
The most likely cause is that the window motor has gone out. Is the car still under warranty? One way to check the motor is to turn the ignition on, don't start the engine, then try to operate the window while watching the dome lamp. If the lamp dims when you activate the switch, it is most likely the window motor. If not then next likely cuplprit would be the switch.
