Why does it switch off when it get hot and starts again after 20min when its cool?

    When i start the car the engine runs but it sounds like a diesel car recently i would start it and drive for like 5min & when it starts to get hot the engine stops running and i pull ova to the side till it cools down for about 20min & the engine would start again & does the same thing over & over

That is a common crankshaft angle sensor trait just before it quits completely. Find your crank angle sensor (almost behind the crankshaft pulley) and when your engine gets hot & cuts out, pour cold water over the sensor to cool it down. If the engine then starts straight away the sensor is faulty.

Check the fuel filler cap is well vented. Before you remove listen to the noise it makes. If it sucks to much air when your tank is full, then your tank is not breathing.

My jaguar 4.2 2003 s type car will not start when hot but if you wait 20 mins it will start. stat & waterpump replaced.there is no coolant loss or signs of overheating , car drives fine apart from this...
sounds like the temp sencer switch is bad the fan isn't comming on when you turn the car off
when you turn your motor off the temp in the motor rises and the fan shood come on thats why you need to wait 20min to restart the temp has gone down and it isnt vapor locked

The amount that it gets hot is a clue but theres no shut off switch. It's possible that the car is over heating and the temp gauge does'nt have enought water over it to report the problem. once the cooling system is cleared as it's full circulating and the fan will come on when it's hot ( disconnect the temp. switch on the therostate cover on the top of the transmission, ( the stat is in the lower hose ) with it disconnected and the key on the fan should be on and connected f till it's real hot. The crank senser or distrubutor module can can too hot and shut down too

Start by flushing your coolant system, then refill with a quality coolant.
Run up to temperature and check again for level (when cool again)

Check that the radiator is getting really hot quite suddenly when running from cold, as this is the best way of checking thermostat operation.
When over a set temperature (check your manual) the fan should come on.
If it never does - troubleshoot the fan (temperature switch or sensor first, then fan on direct feed to see if it powers up ok)

possible ignition coil pack breaking down when hot....cools off and works again. pull plug wire off plug and check for spark when in this no start condition.vehicle must have air, fuel and spark to run.

check for fuel prusser in that 20 min if there is nothing change the fule pump
