First you/someone, have to locate the actual leak. Is it the pump, a hose, the steering rack itself? How bad is the leak? There are some products out there that claim to gaurantee to stop the leak (lucas) by adding them to the system, but i suspect that's only for small ones & 50/50 at that, and would only use them if real necessary at the time.

Caravans all have the same problem with the power steering pump. The pump rusts and starts leaking from a rot hole in which there is no repair. If its a pressure line or a return line, they can be replaced as well as the steering pump. This is not a big job if your famliar with working on cars,if your not, I would recommend going to a garage.

SOURCE: How do i repair a power steering leak in the main ram of a 1991 C

There is no repair commonly to repair the rack and pinion. The only thing you can do is replace the unit and make sure it gets aligned properly afterward so it does not wear out either the outside or inside of the tires, cause the steering wheel to be off, or steering issues.

2002 LDV Convoy. It has a leak in the steering box, and I have to keep topping up power steering reservoir. Is there anything I can add to stop this leak as U.K. MOT Test is due.

Question edited for clarity and because you are in the UK. This is a North American website but I am British living in Canada.

Yes there are hydraulic leak sealers for power steering. What they do is make the old brittle seals more flexible so they seal again. After a week or so, clean off the leak area with Gunk Spray and hose it off. If it is from the hoses, just replace them as it is a cheap fix.

You can fix your power steering fluid leak by using BlueDevil's guaranteed power steering repair. BlueDevil Power Steering Stop Leak permanently seals leaks in power steering, differentials, and worn rack and pinion systems.

Power steering leak

with power-steering it could be one of three problems. 1- power steering pump could be going out ( normally with the pump the car will whine but will not normally leak and still hold fluid) 2- a leak in your power steering lines ( and can normally be resolved with new lines or sometimes you may be able to bypass and clamp the leak on the line) 3- you may have busted the O rings in your powersteering pump and that will actually cause the pump to leak

hint- alot of people will tell you that you may also use transmission fluid for power-steering this is true you can its that same thing as power-steering fluid just a different color (but dont put power-steering fluid in a transmission, but at the same time if you plan on replacing the pump i would use transmission fluid due to it being cheaper but it will cause the O rings in the power-steering pump to go out quicker to cause a worse leak) so i would recommend to locate the leak first before using trans fluid due to if its in a line you wont have to replace the pump but if its already the pump this is the cheapest fix until repaired

You have to look it over to find the leak
We can not do that for you

Check all the hoses, steering rack boots,
cooler hoses by radiator and condensor.

A leak should be easy to find
Not alot of items to the system, to repair

Power Steering Fluid

sometimes adding brake fluid to the power steering pump will stop the leak if its not to bad.you may have to keep adding as it leaks down untill you use about a bottle ,before it stops the leak.
