I have a 2006 Mazda 6s. I had the motor done. When I got the car back, the check engine light was on with code po340, the "tcs off" light and the traction light is on. Also the tach does not work. When I step on the gas, the TCS OFF light and the traction light go off and the tach works for a second. The guy who did the engine said " I dont know" its driving me insane. Help!!
Code 340 is for a problem with the cam position sensor. That would affect the tach and cause the check engine light to be on.
And most all the time the check engine light is on the other warning lights will be also. The Traction control system uses the engine and the ABS system to function. So if there is a problem with the engine, the TCS will be disabled.
The cam sensor and circuits would need to be tested. It could be a wiring problem.
Testimonial: "Ok replaced both cam position sensors. I still get the code. It was not doing this before the guy rebuilt the engine. WHen I got the car back, I checked the codes and replaced the cam position sensors yesterday. Rpm gauge only works for a second when I rev it up, and at that point the "tcs off" light and the traction light ( light with the squiggly lines) goes off for a second too... Where do I start hunting for a wire problem?"

and its an 04 not an 06. excuse my typo!!
You may need professional help to fix it. Code 340 says the computer is not getting the signal from the cam sensor or sensors. The sensor is supposed to be reading the high and low teeth on the cam gear. So if you have relaced the sensors, the problem could be the cam gears, or the circuit between the sensor and the computer. Normally the sensor output is checked with a scanner and a meter before replacement.
Its also possible the cams are not exactly lined up with each other if the signal from one sensor is not the same as the other in relation to the crank sensor.
so the engine may be out of timing? I would think the engine builder timed it correctly. This is so so frustrating.
Its possible. Based on your comments the problem started after the engine was worked on. As with any trouble code, testing and elimination of options gets you to the problem. I'm just giving some of the possible causes.
