Question about 2007 Pontiac Solstice Convertible

Water pump problems

I have seen a lot of forums and blogs regarding water pump replacement on different models and years of the Pontiac Solstice. I just had mine replaced and GM won't cover any of the expenses because my car just ran out of its warranty. Does the water pump seem to be an issue in the Solstice? GM is willing to refund repair costs if I can prove this should have been a recall, which I feel it should have been. Thanks.

They don't pay for repairs on 10 year old vehicles, and I agree with them.

My 98 sunfire's fan stopped working and overheated too - got all the fluids changed and radiator checked - but the problem turned out to be that power was bypassing the PCM and it needs a new one....
hope that helps.

SOURCE: replacing water pump on 98 grand am

Rates vary, so just call and ask. I think the engines are 2.3,2.4;3.1 and 3.3 in size. If your engine is one of these, they take timing chains instead of belts. But maybe you have something else. You might want to check that. I would guess that it would be more than $500., maybe even twice that from some people... Rick

SOURCE: How do you replace the water pump on a 06 pontiac

You may need ramps or jackstands for this job. And don't forget to block your wheels. With your engine cool drain all the coolant out and step two remove the serpentine belt. You should be able to remove the pump at this point. Make sure you clean the area good before reinstalling the pump. Use some waterproof gasket seal and reverse though the steps...............Thank You for Using FixYa.Com

Model years are overlapping with current years. Its a manufacturing race for new models to be on the lots before the year. I would go off the emission sticker under hood for year of car as engines are set to the emission reductions for the listed year.

2007 solstice has lots of wind noise with the top up

Tape various areas where you think the problem is then road test it to see if it made a difference. If so you will have to find some way to alter the wind travel. If not, get out and move the tape to another suspect area.
Good luck!

Check to see if there was a recall notice about your problem. If not, getting a refund will be a uphill battle.

I am having the same problem with my 94 sunfire. changed thermostat. flushed and cleaned radiator replaced coolant. no cigar. any ideas. mechanic says could be water pump but he cannot be sure and it is...

To see if it is your water pump - remove the radiator cap and start your vehicle while it is cold. the water should not circulate due to the thermostat being closed. When it is warm, the coolant should be seen to ciculate as viewed through the rad cap opening. (be sure there is lots of coolant - of course) Also if there is no thermostat - the water will circulate after the engine is started wheather hot or cold if the water pump is working. You say it is a new thermostat so I assume it is not stuck closed.

be careful not to get it on your good clothes, the acid could burn holes in them.

If I ever think I MIGHT have gotten battery acid on clothes I immediately soak them in lots of water. I have not had any acid holes in many years this way
