Transmission won't shift from 1st to 2nd gear on it's own

It doesn't slip in any gear, it's just won't shift on it's own to 2nd gear. You have to let the rpm's drop below 2000 and it will then shift. after that it will shift from 2nd to third and over drive just fine. The passing gear work ok aswell. Any ideas? It is a 1999 Dodge Ram 3500 2wd

I am haveing the same issue with my 01 dodge 2500 diesel 2wd. I was told the ground to the ecm was not good enough from the factory. the ecm is located on the pass side of the fire wall on the engine bay side. you will see a ground. make another wire and connect it to the ecm.(make sure you put the otherone back as well) the other end will go straight to the ground on the battery. try that.

Have you any ideas what i should check next?

Even though your shifter doesn't show 1st gear, your transmission will start out in 1st, then shift into 2nd at around 10-15mph. If you start out with shifter in 2nd, you should feel the gear change.
About all the average person can do with automatics is check the fluid, and possibly drop the pan and change filters. sometimes that helps with slipping or balky transmissions, but not always.
Good luck, Bill. Maybe somone else has some ideas?

1998 Dodge Grand Caravan will not shif into 2nd

Most likely the second gear section of the transmission has gone bad. There are 3 or 4 different gear sections or assemblies in an automatic transmission, when they go bad, they go bad.

Transmission problem in E230 Benz

What you need to check is the transmission release bearing because if there is a clearance on the release bearing you will encounter this problem and also check the transmission oil.
