SOURCE: check engine light is blinking

check the spark plug wires for dry rotting and check the order there in starting from the back of the motor left to right the order go's 1..2..3 and then the front left to right the order go's 4..5..6 also make sure that all the wires are plugged in the right order on the distributor also it could be your TCS or "TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM"

SOURCE: cranks but won't start fuel pump not coming on

put a small amount of fuel in the intake near the throttle plate then crank and see if it fires, if it does then it's a fuel problem, if it does not fire then pull a plug wire and put a philips head screw driver into the plug wire hold it 1/4 inch away from a good ground then have someone crank it over, you should see spark and it should be blue, if not then you have a ignition problem a bad coil or cam sensor but need to know what you found out on the two tests I told you first to give you a direction to go.

I have a 2001 Mazda Tribute, it tries to start but will not. How do I go about diagnostics on it?

With key on, check that all warning lights and the check engine light are illuminated. Also that the fuel pump turns on for 2 seconds. You should hear a buzz or hum from the gas tank for that 2 seconds with key turned to on. If the pump is working, that means gas should be to the engine. It may be necessary to check the fuel pressure. Some parts stores loan or rent fuel pressure gauges. If fuel pressure is correct, or if you are sure the pump is putting gas up to the injector's fuel rail, then check for spark on a spark plug wire while a helper cranks the engine over.

Gas and spark, that is what you test for first. You will also need to check for trouble codes with a scan tool. Parts stores will do a scan for free. But if it won't start, that may be a problem getting to a store. So it is gas and spark. If you have both, next would be to check the injector circuit. Answer back if you need help with the circuit. All you need is a voltmeter or a test light.

You would need a scanner or code reader to check for trouble codes.
I would start with checking for spark and fuel pressure.

Have a 2003 Mazda Tribute having intermittent starting problems. It will turn over but not start. Also it will die while driving every now and then. Have replaced IAC, fuel filter, and fuel pump works...

You need to determine what you are losing when the car won't start - either spark, or fuel.
Check for spark with a spark tester at one of the spark plugs. If no spark when attempting to start, you have an ignition system problem. If you have spark, but the car still won't start, you have a fuel delivery problem.

I have a 2001 Mazda tribute it cranks but won't start.

You need 3 things for a car to start. Air, Fuel, Spark. Take some throttle body cleaner and spray it in the throttle body, If it starts you are not getting fuel. Use a spark tester and check if you have spark if not check crank position sensor, and coils. And obviously check your air filter box for anything keeping air from coming in.
