My V6 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse will not start. Battery voltage is fine. Does not crank at all just nothing. All fuses have been checked. Whats next to check?
Thanks for trying but, did not work. All fuses and relays in side and outside checked good. Had Started and Battery bench checked by Auto Zone checked good. Now the ignition relay is this at the steering colum or undre the hood in the relay box?? Does bench checking the starter also check the starter solenoid ?? Any suggestions Still need helpThanks for trying but, did not work. All fuses and relays in side and outside checked good. Had Started and Battery bench checked by Auto Zone checked good. Problem fixed. It was the STARTER after all. I went back to AUTO ZONE and told them they needed to recheck their Tester as it cost me about 3 extra days of troubleshooting the whole electrical system for problems. Luck would have it that I ran into someone who also owned a Eclipse that had the same problem - Samething they took their Starter to Auto Zone and got the all good from them to.Problem fixed. Engine cranks over three times an stops ? starter or battery cables . does it crank over slow ? Save yourself some money an take it to a ASE certified repair facility !
Found this wiring diagram. Voltage for the coil comes from ignition switch, the ignition power transistor/ignition module controls the ground for the coil. My info says you crank and cam position sensors are built into the distributor. Sorry, I know very little about a Mitsubishi, I can't help you diagnose.
What's the battery voltage? Check that the battery has a good ground to the body and engine. There should be a large cable from the positive terminal to the starter and a smaller one to the fuse box. There often is a large fuse there in the engine compartment on this smaller wire that may be open.
The head lights killing the car is a charging problem.Put a volt meter on the car,and check the voltage while the car is running. It should read about 13.65 to 14.25 volts. If it is less than this ,the alternator is not putting out enough voltage,or none at all.If there is 12 volts or a little more when you check it(while the car is running)then the alternator is not charging at all.12 volts is plain ole battery voltage.Check for a alternator fuse that is blown,or any cable or wires loose or come apart. If there is nothing found, then replace the alternator.Be sure the battery cables(cable ends) are clean and shining. Not dull in color,or grey,to black. Also the post on the battery.Put them back on tight. If this helped, please let us know, thank you.
check for voltage at the small start wire on the starter when cranking the engine--you will need someone help. If there is no voltage you may have a bad neutral safety switch ,which is on the trany shifter.you have an automatic trans i assume.
If so try putting in neutral when cranking.
