SOURCE: my 1992 lexus ls 400 keeps stalling and idleis very low

Look for a small electric motor near the accelerator cable and near the top of the valve cover.

It's call IDLE AIR CONTROL (IAC) motor.

It's job is to increase the idle when load is added.
Example: turning on headlight, turning on AC.

Testing it is simple.

Warm up you car for 10 minutes.

Locate the IAC motor

turn on loads.....AC,headlights,etc

The motor should move the idle up

If the motor does not increase the RPM then it can be stick.

Try to give it few gentle taps to free up the gears.

It can be clean if your are up to it.

This electrical motor is very expensive. Please handle it with care.

The other trouble spot are

old accelerator cable

TPS Throttle position sensor

====

I will do a simple tune up and gas treatment before starting to replace any parts.

SOURCE: My 1993 Ls 400 Lexus runs fine for about 10 to 15 miles, then shuts off. it will not start for at least 2 or more hours. then it runs again. So far I've replace the fuel pump and fuel pump control

Need to check next time it quits, pull a wire and see if it has spark,
I suspect it is a ignition problem, not fuel.

My 1993 geo prizm car cranks very well but if i try to start it, it will not start, it seems that there is no gas getting to the engine

A couple of ways to check if you don't have access to a fuel pressure gauge. You should hear a brief hum or buzz from the gas tank area just by turning the key to on, not start. The fuel pump is supposed to turn on for 2 seconds to put pressure in the fuel line and at the injectors. If you hear nothing, the fuel pump may have failed, but check the fuel pump fuse to know it is not blown . To check further, spray a shot of starting fluid into the air intake housing-take off the big air boot from the air filter housing to the engine, and spray inside there into the engine. Now try to start the car. If the engine coughs to life and tries to run for a few seconds, then you know it wasn't getting gas, and that usually is a bad fuel pump or a totally clogged fuel filter. To check the filter, take it off and blow into the outlet side first and see if what comes out looks clean. Then blow from the inlet side and make sure the filter passes air, that it isn't blocked. If the filter was clean, it must be the pump. It is supposed to turn on briefly with key turned to on, and then it runs constantly when the engine is cranking or running. So it has had a good long life since 1993. The definitive test of a bad pump would be to find live power at the fuel pump wire at the gas tank connector while the engine was cranking over. If power there, but no pump working, definitely time for a new pump.

I have a 98 Camaro I put a fuel pump in fuel filter an my car still won't start.Do thank the gas line clog up?

If you know for a fact the pump is getting power and ground, and nothing is coming out of the line before the filter, then yes the line could be clogged up.

find the filter pull it off and clean it if u cant clean it replace it they usally are cheap on older vehicles but with the filter off turn the car have someone turn the car to the on position so the pump is pumping and see how good it is coming out of the line if not very good then your gas tank line to the fuel filter is clogged but if its fine check the next fuel line the one on the fuel rail there is a bolt on the fuel rail crack it open and have someone turn the key if gas comes out then you are getting fuel and that would mean your injectors are bad

1991 Isuzu Trooper. Recently my truck simply wouldn't start with no previous indications of trouble. The engine turns over but there doesn't appear to be fuel making it to the engine since after pumping...

Disconnect the fuel line at the fuel filter. Turn the car on for the pump to be on. If you are getting gas pumped out, then your pump is good. If not there's most likely your problem. Then try the line at the engine. Disconnect and see if the gas is making it that far. Your should also be able to hear the pump come on if you open the gas cap and listen while someone turns the key to the on position.

Car starts but turns off try starting car second time it will start with a little gas will run fine. it does this every time when starting car. was told that fuel pressure is low. car accelerates with out...

i would somehow either test the fuel pump and filter and replace the one that is not working, or replace them both. to test the filter you can try to take the filter off and blow through it. if no air comes out the other side, its clogged. for the pump, turn your key until it stops before the engine starts and listen carefully for a hum from by the gas tank. the hum is the fuel pump turnig on; if their is no hum, your fuel pump needs to be replaced.

Hooking up a fuel pressure gauge an seeing if the fuel pump is in fact charging the fuel system . Checking the electrical circuit , fuel pump relay , Instead of guessing as to what the problem is , Test ,Test an test . If you do not know how to do automotive electrical testing there are videos on youtube . Basic Electricity for Service Techs Ohm law Current Flow Opens Shorts When you turn the key on ,not start , the engine computer will energize the fuel pump for a few seconds to prime the system . The fuel pump will not be turned on again if the engine computer does not see a signal from the crankshaft position sensor . Instead of being fixated on the fuel , check for spark . Also find a wiring diagram at http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Do you know what a wiring diagram is , how to read one ? How to Use Multimeter to Troubleshoot Common Problems

Repairing automobiles the correct way involves years of training , an testing . Fuel Pressure Test

Hey there boatright33,

A few things things immediately come to mind.

There may be a problem with the engine controller. You could check the ODBII onboard diagnostics. Auto part stores will usually do this for you at no cost.

When you pulled the ones that were/went bad, how did the filters look? Could there be particulate matter still in the tank causing them to fail.

I always put this one off until last. Check the injectors. Are they gummed up?

Let me know what you find out
Mike
