I have a 99 ford explorer 4x4, v-6 with a 4.0 engine I can not locate the IAT sensor. It is not located on the hose connected to the air filter. Where else could this sensor be?

Yes, I'm trying to find the ait sensor on my 1996 ford explorer. Can you tell me where it is located, or the position where it is at?

You mean IAT, right? Intake Air Temp? depends on which motor you have. I have a couple diagrams below:

4.0 SOHC: on back side of intake hose

check your wiring for dirty connections or broken wires, you may have wires that are rubbed through or connectors that are not making full contact. you will need an ohm meter and check wires for continuity. a wiring diagram will be needed.
