98 cadillac sls idling rough

I noticed that I had no engine oil this morning, after noticing the car idling rough the night before. I filled the car up with oil, but it is still idling very rough. The car has had a recent tune up, and the check engine light is not on. The car runs smoothly when driven at high or low speeds , but when parked or stopped at a light, it runs and shakes roughly. Help?

Don't think it's major could be any number of sensors. Any autozone will run a free scan and point you in the right direction.

SOURCE: car idles rough in park also runs rough in overdrive

Sometimes a rough idle like that is a fuel filter. As you've already done the plugs and wires the fuel filter would be my next bet.

Rough idle

Have you tried changing the distributor cap and rotor? These tend to get moisture build-up and cause a slight cross-fire, usually most noticeable at idle. They are also very common for intake manifold gasket leaks, but they usually start out as a coolant or oil leak at the corners of the manifold.

1998 buick lesabre with 145000 miles on it; drove it to work and back the other day -- didn't notice anything was wrong (ie rough idling); wasnt real cold here, put heater on, turned fan on and it was warm...

sounds like a blown head gasket or a head gasket gettin ready to blow which is common on older cars with excessive mileage on them. If that's the case once the gasket fully breaks the car will more than likley shut down on you. It's a big job to replace them because the the whole top end of the engine has to be removed. And if you can't fix it yourself and have to take it to a mechanic the cost will probably be more than the cars worth.

Cadillac 2003 CTS - mechanic says there is coolant in the engine oil? Yellow pearly substance in the place where you add the oil.

Sounds like he is right.
are you loosing coolant?
Other items that you may have noticed
Looseing coolant
White trails on the side of the block
Pull some spark plugs, do they all look the same.
Engine runs a little rough as it warms up and then is fine.
