2003 Audi A6 3.0 automatic with tiptronic and CVT tranny. Sometimes when I start the car and put it in reverse, it fails to work. You can feel it engage, but when you hit the gas, nothing happens. It drives fine going forward. Could this just be something that could be repaired in the transmission, or is it shot? Would changing the fluid and filter possibly correct the problem.

Not overly familiar with Audis but it sounds like either a.) you have an electronic tranny that has a serious bug or b.) there's a problem in the computer of the car itself. What is sounds like is the car is taking a long time to "understand" that you're telling it to move forward. How new is the car? When you push on the gas before the three minutes, what happens?

I have been having similar problems. The clutch is slipping as thats how you get the variable gears when in full auto, but this is where the problem comes from, some garages (auto gearbox specialists) are now able to fix it. Do not go to Audi as all they do is replace the gearbox (very expensive). There is no quick fix though! Sorry for the bad news!!

Sounds like a pump issue, check line pressure. If it does have a bad trans pump it can be changed with out removing the trans. But also check the fluid level if you haven't already.

Unless your shade tree mechanic is an Audi expert, go to the dealer who has all the books and diagrams that tell the tech exactly where to look. The other guy may want to replace something just to troubleshoot and the factory tech should know exactly what to replace or which plug is loose.

The shift needs to be in park or neutral to start. to shift from neutral with the engine running, you have to touch the brakes. Can't explain the label on the dash, unless it has been replaced.
