Hi
I know on my commodore it has a code that I can enter I need to access this by using the buttons on the dash that are used for checking fuel level till empty, distance to go, distance travelled etc.
Could be the same for you worth a try problem is you need the code for your car.
Most are factory set at 0000 but you only get a couple of goes.
Regards Craig

SOURCE: anti-theft system

You have to have 2 keys that are already programed in order to program another key. The procedure is cycle 2 programed keys in the ignition switch one at a time pausing 3 secs each time in the run position or until the antitheft light proves out. Then cycle an un-programmed key for 3 secs and the same for any addition key.It will have a limit of 8 keys.
If you do not have 2 already programmed keys then you have to have a scan tool that will perform security access and key programming.

2008 Mercury Mariner intermittent starting problems

so the key is not consistant
and the car came with 2 good keys day1 new, lost 2nd?
the key is bad, is the IMMO lamp glowing wrong per users guide>?
but to me this evidence is a bad key.
the first thing to know and worrry is ,
never have just one good key on any modern IMMO car.
and never ignore the IMMO lamp

no start means what?
  1. starter dead, and silent or only clicks or chatters
  2. starter motor cranks the engine fast but engine does not start.
  3. or IMMO lamp glows wrong
check all fuses
scan the pcm for key errors or related.

IMMO means page 91 in users guide free and i guess lost.
SECURILOCKâ„¢ PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM
SecuriLockâ„¢ passive anti-theft system is an engine immobilization
system. This system is designed to help prevent the engine from being
started unless a coded Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT) is happy.
next page the good or not happy words

When the ignition is in the 1 (LOCK) position, the indicator
will flash once every 2 seconds to
indicate the SecuriLockâ„¢ system
is functioning as a theft deterrent.
• When the ignition is in the 3 (RUN) position, the indicator will glow
for 3 seconds to indicate normal system functionality.
If a problem occurs with the SecuriLockâ„¢ system, the indicator will flash
rapidly or glow steadily when the ignition is in the 3 (RUN) position.

If this occurs, the vehicle will not start and should be taken to an
authorized dealer for service
again never have just 1 good key.

my guess is the keyswitch also has problems.

scan the PCM yet to see true cause of this error.
battery in car must be fully changed, 12.6vdc rested.
below 10v the onboard carcomputer brains go dead or random.
  • main car huge battery not weak or discharged.
  • 2nd key fails, never have just one.

Do I need to disconnect my battery if I am not using my car, 2000 Volvo 2.4T Estate - Automatic, for a few months?

The battery will eventually lose charge over a few months - depending on it's age and condition.

If you can get someone to turn it over once a week or so, that would be a better idea.

Even if the battery is removed, it is likely to have lost its charge by the time you come back to refit it. You will need either a jump start with cables, a booster pack or a battery charger.

Just be aware that an older battery may need replaced if left disconnected for a few months. If your battery is more than three years old, remove it but buy a new battery when you come to use the car again.

It's true that no battery might cause the alarm system to need resetting. Have a word with a local mechanic for advice. They are always knowledgeable and far less expensive than a dealer.

How to charge a car battery while battery is in the car

No, do not disconnect your car's cables. Connect positive cable to positive one on charger cables, & negative to negative. Attach to DEAD battery FIRST. Then attach to car that's giving you a charge. BOTH CARS MUST BE OFF DURING ATTACHING PHASE. Then the car giving you a charge must start theirs. Let both sit like this for a few minutes (usually 3-5 minutes is plenty). Then try starting your car. If not charged enough, turn yours all the way off & continue charging for longer period of time. YOU DO NOT REMOVE THE CAR's OWN CABLES AT ANY TIME DURING OR AFTER THIS PROCESS, BUT ONLY WHEN A NEW BATTERY IS BEING PLACED IN YOUR CAR.

My car won't start, won't turn over, but it makes clicking noise in dash board, it just lost all gauges on dash board wOnt work, only the speedodometer works, it's security light is on. The clock changes...

sounds like a wire or ground wire is contacting at a pinch point, and grounding out the system. first have the battery voltage checked, it should be no less than 12v, and no more than 14.5v, during cranking it can drop to 8.5v but no less. any new parts installed, such as a ignition switch???/
may need to be reprogramed to match the computer, or just fix a bad connection.
