SOURCE: my 1999 kia sephia wont pass smog test

You will need to get it scanned and get the codes for the problem. If it failed the test due to emissions I would almost guarantee it will be your oxygen sensor or cat

My nissan altima 1999 did not pass the smog test due to "high emission", it also does not have the check engine light on or give any obd codes. What could be the problem?

Robert, High emissions usually mean the EGR valve and several hoses and other smog components are clogged up. There is no easy fix, you have to get the shop to check through the smog system on your car if you cannot do it yourself. Type of driving, short runs, high miles, burning oil etc all contribute to the engine giving a dirty reading. It may not be enough to light the lamp but it'll be dirty enough. Of cause, it may be the lamp is bust as well? Does it test light when you start up?

Will a 2003 Ford Ranger w/ 2.3ltr 4-cylinder engine pass smog w/ a P2004 check engine light code? Intake manifold stuck open. I had this problem 2 years ago when I had to smog it last time. I replaced an...

No any codes will let you fail..Rangers are bad about the valve sticking..But first look on th driverside very back on the intake..Youll see a valve with two vacuum lines The one that goes on the bottom of the valve makes a 90 bend and is bad about breaking..If the lines are good then work the valve by hand and see if it will move

1999 Ford Taurus SE 3.0 with overhead cam. check engine light is on and code says P0443 purge valve system. says purge valve wants to operate but wont hold vacuum. Also most likely has pcm failure but...

It will not pass inspections. The purge valve could be a vacuum hose cracked or something simple but it could also be a worn out valve. The pcm failure could be very expensive.

My 1999 toyota corolla check engine is on for a year.I took it to smog test and they said it will fail the test. What should I do now? How can I turn the light off?

A code P0441 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
  • Bad vacuum switch
  • Broken or damaged EVAP line or canister
  • Open in PCM purge command circuit
  • Open or short in Voltage feed circuit to Purge Solenoid
  • Faulty purge solenoid
  • Restriction in EVAP solenoid, line or canister
  • Corrosion or resistance in purge connector
  • Bad PCM Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow
What does that mean? This indicates that a part of the EVAP control system is no longer fuctioning correctly. The EVAP system consists of many parts, including (but not limited to) the gas cap, fuel lines, carbon canister
, purge valve, and other hoses. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.
EVAP emission canister purge is contolled by a valve which allows engine vacuum to pull stored fuel vapors from fuel tank
into the engine to be burned, rather than be vented to atmosphere. A vacuum switch is used to detect when flow exists. If the PCM commands purge and sees that the switch is closed (indicating no detected purge flow) P0441 is set.

The check engine light stays on or comes back on when doing smog test. It passed everything on the smog test except check engine light. The indicator code is P0446.

Hi:
Your P0446 code is a Evap vent valve code: Evap vent valve has only one purpose. It closes in order to seal the vent so the EVAP system can pressurize and ensure there are no leaks. Evap vent valve is usually supplied Batt. voltage with key on. The ECM's driver controls the ground, and when grounded, activates the valve (closing it). If the ECM detects a short to ground, and open,or a short to battery voltage on the control circuit, P0446 will set. Code also may refer to ECM detecting that EVAP system is unable to achieve or maintain vacuum during test.
copyscape.gif Symptoms There will be no obvious symptoms to driver, other than MIL illumination.
Causes A code P0446 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty vent valve
  • Open, short or excessive resistance on Vent valve control circuit
  • Blockage of vent valve
  • Bad PCM
Possible Solutions With a P0446 OBD-II trouble code, here are some things to try:
  • Replace Vent valve
  • Repair open, short, or resistance problem in control circuit
  • Repair open, or short, or resistance problem in power circuit
  • Replace PCM
